(18,184 posts)and allow religious extremists to fill the vacuum?
And now we are openly supporting using religious fundies to topple a secular regime.
That's what I don't get about the neocon "spreading liberal democracy" claim.
We have to be honest and look at what we're doing and admit the real reasons we're doing it, or quit doing it IMO.

(26,060 posts)weekend where it appeared the poster was doing their best to prove Bill Maher right - that any discussion of some of the more unsavory parts of the way Islam is practiced in some countries made me an Islamophobe. First it's the deflection (the US or Israel are obviously so much worse) and when that didn't work, I was anti-Muslim. Maher could have used it to prove his point quite nicely as the conversation centered on gay rights.

(26,060 posts)if I don't give a shit what they call me and frankly don't care if they think I'm an Islamophobe. I know what's in my heart - they're free to behave like children. The truly humorous thing is they continue to prove Bill Maher right.

(3,584 posts)and get engineering jobs at my workplace, which is a large state agency. They are super-great folks. They leave the old country for a better life here. In general, they are very family-oriented, and want a better life for their wife and kids. When you are their supervisor, they ask you to dinner at their homes, which we are really not suppose to do. So we hit the local restaurants with a group, for lunch.
