spoken out loud, but not in the thread because in a show of solidarity, I had a post hidden ...

I DID NOT CALL, SAY, IMPLY, NOR INFER THAT WILLIAMPITT IS A RACIST, OR HAS SAID ANYTHING RACIST.
WHAT I SAID WAS:
Yeah ... Who can forget his calling President Obama a POS Used Car Salesman ... that there is a best and brightest pillar of DU for the ages!
Rates right up there with another pillar telling watermelon jokes. Or, that other pillar telling a Black DUer to get a job and go back to watching Housewives of Atlanta.
And then:
But I guess my fatal flaw was saying anything against the best and brightest pillar of DU, because as two jurors said:
Explanation: You could tell this guy you drive a blue car and he'd find a way to twist it into something racial.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Yeah, the racist association is too much.
I guess all I can say is reading IS fundamental!

(1,305 posts)In addition to racist, that one's fan club has an elitist and bigoted view towards my state.
One even suggested I was illiterate.
The whole thread is an example of everything that's wrong with a certain segment of the left.
We're the good guys and we'll persevere. Them, not so much.

(20,905 posts)like FR-lite, but I sure do agree that it's had a disturbing RW trend these past couple of years and it only seems to be getting worse. I've been here over eleven years and so to note that kind of a trend when DU could once be relied on to be a staunch bedrock of liberal racism-free progressivism is very sad. I won't go so far as to say that it was also free of sexism, but it was a lot better that it is now. Sigh.

(10,893 posts)is left-leaning when it comes to economical issues, and right-leaning when it comes to social issues (outside of gay rights). For example, some of the most popular potential candidates for president in 2016 (here) are hailed mainly for their fiscal agendas, but there is seemingly rarely a word about where they stand on issues related to race and women's rights.

(20,905 posts)God forbid we gals call out any sexist post. WE will be hidden while the sexist post will remain. And my favorite is the gentleman and his cohorts on here who call child support "male enslavement".
bravenak
(34,648 posts)I never could figure out how it's slavery to support your own children, but not slavery for the women to support their children on less pay. Then we have the HOF stalkers......
liberalhistorian
(20,905 posts)mentioned the HOF stalkers! Get ready for the onslaught of defenses and being called "whiny women", etc., etc., we know the drill. All too well.
And it's "slavery" to support your own children, because they were "tricked" into it by us "deceptive" women, doncha know!!!

(23,720 posts)I find that white people don't like the word racist. It's a hard word that tends to smack a person in the brain when it's said or written. Bigot is a softer word. It's more like a soft tap on the shoulder and doesn't inflame to the extent that racist does. What do you think?
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)anymore. That doesn't work.

(23,720 posts)take and slam a persons face into what I like to call the hard wall of reality. Metaphorically speaking, that is.
liberalhistorian
(20,905 posts)that you posted the phrase "or was hired as part of an affirmative action program to get jobs for idiots". Do you genuinely not see the problems with that statement, especially its potential racist undertones?
MannyGoldstein

(34,648 posts)Today I'm being grammar checked and told I speak like a valley girl for typing out OMG. And that if I had better grammar I would be successful. Apparently it's not racist at all to call black people whiners for discussing slavery and the struggle that has not ended. I was told that things are fine for black people, because Obama and Holder and that if I just got that chip off of my shoulder and spoke better, I would see that i'm just a cry baby whiner. I suppose that goes for all black people.
Oh, and Sally Hemmings LOVED being Jeffersons bedslave in a stockholm syndrome kinda way.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)Wait, it wasn't hidden!
Another of the best and brightest pillors of DU, revealed.
bravenak
(34,648 posts)But, they will hide mine if I Call a racist post racist. Gotta love the blind privilege there. The racists get a pass but the black has to mind their tongue. The grammar check was the worst though. It's like an english only speaker trying to check me on my german. Monolingual Americans always think they are smarter than everyone else. And it seems some see black as being ignorant and unsuccessful unless they win a Nobel prize or speak in a manner desired by the majority.

(1,305 posts)I really do not like the south bashing since idiots abound everywhere. I live in the northern most state and we have a large amount of idiots here. Like Palin, Parnell, Don Young, and all of the dumbasses who vote for them.

LawDeeDah
(1,596 posts)well, it sounds like a privilege thing or something. Something is askew, I can't see how some of those things said get recs instead of get hidden. It's is amusing tho on a lower level.
liberalhistorian
(20,905 posts)no wrong, and it's been that way for more than eleven years. There's a hierarchy here, unfortunately, and those who try to point it out and the unfairness of it are shouted down while the icons keep smiling and posting whatever they want.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)And, mostly, the deletions occurred because he's a popular figure here.
It had nothing to do with following site rules, juries vote by gut or emotion or if they like or dislike the poster or the target of the reply.
So, really, it's bullshit. And your hide was bullshit. Juror #7 got it right.
Never mind the fact that the rant was ill-placed and things with ACA worked out in the end for the spouse of the OP.
And I'm glad for that, but the used-car salesman crap should have been corrected or self-deleted.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)And not post 2 or 3 more threads saying, essentially, the same thing?
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)I've been following the ACA more carefully than he was, I guess.
But you know what? Shitting on the black president is a big money maker, it's the thing to do, Fox and CNN and even MSNBC do it every day.
It sells papers and on DU it gets recs.
So if a popular blogger wants to keep their creds up, they aren't going to back down, apologize, write a retraction, or any such thing.
No, they're gonna double down and write a couple more. (somewhere in there he admitted that it worked out with a little extra effort)
Never mind that, like as has always been the case, he needed to study up and challenge the insurance carrier and clear things up, after which the problem was gone.
So, I know and you know who was the used car salesman in this case, but the DU community, most of them, will never get it.

(20,905 posts)and I know that you do not think, nor did you say, that he is a racist. But apparently around here, all you have to do is even look like you're considering saying anything at all against Will or a few of the other icons who can do no wrong while others are unceremoniously tossed out the door for often trivial reasons. and you're pounced on like you are a lump of sugar at an ant convention. I've been here eleven years and that's the way it's always been with him and the other icons. It's annoying and irritating and frustrating, but I don't see it changing, unfortunately. Every site has its idiosyncrasies, and this is one of DU's.

(6,068 posts)The more time goes on, the more his legacy becomes cracked and patinated like a kid's plastic toy left out in the sun.
The repeal of Glass-Steagall. Welfare reform. And so forth. I could woodenly cite the whole list but I barely have the energy any more.
Apparently, not only does he have a full-sized mockup of the Oval Office installed at his property in Arkansas for photo-ops with his innumerable sycophants, but he even has a second, separate full-sized mockup of the oval office installed elsewhere in the house for his own private consumption. I'd hate to be responsible for cleaning the carpets in there.

(32,139 posts)If you weren't calling Will Pitt a racist, what's the point of even *mentioning* someone "telling watermelon jokes" in that response, much "rating it right up there" with Pitt?
To smear, that's why. To make an association with someone who tells watermelon jokes. There is no other reason for you to go there.
Seriously. What if you wrote a post, and someone was talking about it and said, "Yeah, 1StrongBlackMan's post was right up there with that guy who posted rape jokes, or wrote about defecating in public, or some other vile behavior *not connected with you at all.*
You deserved the hide. It was a despicable post invoking racism where there was no basis whatsoever to invoke racism. And you should be doubly embarrassed for having the gall to whine about the hide.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)My point was pointing out that some of the most abhorant posts (e.g., consistently anti-President Obama/anti-Democrat and, yes, racist stuff have been made by members many refer to/treat as"pillars" of DU. It's not that hard to understand.
Oh, you mean like people accuse me of doing racist by association ... whatever that is?
Do you feel better, now that you have roundly chastise me?

(37,573 posts)I see you joined in 2011.
A whole three years ago.
I joined in 2004.
Pitt joined in 2001.
What you wrote here is kinda stupid
"but instead, both, qualifies one as the best and brightest pillars of DU."
See because what qualifies Pitt as "one of the best and brightest pillars of DU" is not his POS used car salesman rant from last year.
No, he sort of has earned a "lifetime achievement" award from post after post against the Bush administration. Posts written in 2001 and 2002 and 2003 that neither of us read. Post after post, 57,000 of them. Many of which have been thought of by many here as - excellent reads.
But it is also true that he has earned some detractors from some perhaps episodes of PWD or other brawls engaged in, in the moshe pit known as GD.
As much as you seem willing to walk through fire to defend Obama, there are others here who will stand up for Pitt, because we think of him as an old friend. And we may also think of Obama as "just another politician who lied to the American people".
And actually juror #2 was not so much defending Pitt as he/she had apparently had some run-ins with you.
