How do you feel about the following statement:
"I support Government programs that secretly monitor my internet activity, email, medical history, purchases and phone calls and those of my children, grandchildren, parents, friends and neighbors because only bad people have anything to fear."
If you agree with this and it makes you feel flush with patriotism, it's time you came out of the closet. There's a political party for you. It's called the GOP.
If you feel the way you feel after watching an innocent or defenseless person being beat up by police, FBI or white supremacists, think about helping us take back the Democratic Party from lazy authoritarians who won't stop until the Party gives up every last bit of human decency.
Seriously. This isn't subtle. This isn't a gray area. Which side are you on?

(2,941 posts)And this is one of the most important since civil war. Knowing the Government is keeping tabs on who you vote for, your political discussions, you personal finances, your friends and contacts represents a polar opposite the intention of almost all articles of the bill of rights.
Are there other differences? Sure. But the intimidation against open discussions of dissent and opposition to government without fear of retribution is critical to being able to move forward on those differences.
I argue you cannot be a Democrat and support a surveillance state for citizens.
We don't need people like that formulating public policy. Get them out of the party.
