Police Brutality can only be Ended when Officers Face Justice

Institutions paid for by the public must always be held to account, especially when we entrust public servants like the police with a responsibility to ensure that the most vulnerable in society are protected. Sadly, the opposite is often the case.

We seem to see an increasing number of examples when the weakest and most vulnerable in society are finding themselves victimized and criminalized at the hands of the police who as members of the public should be accountable for their actions the same way as anyone else. Globally however – from the poorest communities to the most “developed” – this is not the case and police has become the militarized arm of the state.

But there’s an interesting reaction you often get when criticizing the police through the lens of reform and calling for accountability, a knee jerk reaction which reveals the extent to which people are often blindly conditioned to accept certain authority figures without ever questioning them. Often they question you for questioning the police."

*It’s interesting that it’s usually people who have no direct knowledge, or indeed no direct experience with police brutality, who deny there is a problem."

you have to make fundamental changes.

1-Stop treating law enforcement as a revenue source.

2-Eliminate for profit prison and cut mandatory jail sentences.

3-Cut the "Defense" budget in half and remove surplus hardware from the market place.

4-Drop the "War on Drugs".

5-And stop killing people overseas just because it's easy!

That would be a start.

"A warrior is a person specializing in combat or warfare, especially within the context of a tribal or clan-based society that recognizes a separate warrior class or caste."

They are police and should act like police and not some roid rage army.

It's part of the job and they know it before entering the field. If a cop can't face criminals without an M1 tank behind them then they shouldn't be a cop. Militarization along with the mentality needs to end.

I have been saying this stuff for a long time.
I don't see much if this in any political platform though, so there is not going to be much progress to get to there. But there is where we need to be.

They system is set up for the 1% and they will keep the 99% down with all of these practices. And as long as there is no one in power speaking out, it won't change.

they were above the law. That has trickled down to our police forces now.

No one is above the law. Including police officers.
