I know everyone loves that quote, esp. in 12 step meetings, but Einstein probably never said it.

Probably someone like Ned Shneebly said it, but along the way it was decided by the overmind that it carried more imaginary authority if it was attributed to..... I've got it! Einstein!

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.

(50,414 posts)3. That dirty, long haired, hippie also said this:
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder. Albert Einstein

Ergo, the modern US. Explains a lot, doesn't it?

I am not sure if Einstein uttered any remarks suggesting that stupidity can be infinite, but it is enjoyable to think that he did.

Also, apparently, regarding the "insanity" quote- unless he personally penned the Narcotics Anonymous "Basic Text", he never said it.
