List of crucial states' Senate candidates by newspaper endorsement
Here are the Senate candidates endorsed by the top newspaper in the swing states crucial for deciding the Senate majority party, for those curious. (D) endorsements in bold.
AK (Alaska Dispatch News, the former Anchorage Daily News) - TBA
AR (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette) - Tom Cotton (R)
CO (Denver Post) - Cory Gardner (R) (and the paper rightfully got lots of flack for doing so). Meanwhile in Fort Collins, home of Colorado State University, the Coloradoan decided not to endorse either Gardner or Udall.
GA (Atlanta Journal-Constitution) - TBA
IA (Des Moines Register) - Bruce Braley (D) (ditto with the Quad City Times
KS (Wichita Eagle) - Greg Orman (I) - seems that he will caucus with the majority party, so not bolding this name.
KY (Louisville Courier-Journal) - Alison Lundergan Grimes (D), who also enjoyed endorsements from the state's 2nd largest paper Lexington Herald-Leader as well as
LA (New Orleans Times-Picayune) - Mary Landrieu (D) (same with the Lafayette Daily Advertiser - even next door in Texas, the Houston Chronicle supports her.)
MT (Billings Gazette) - Steve Daines (R)
NC (Charlotte Observer) - Kay Hagan (D) (albeit reluctantly)
SD (Sioux Falls Argus Leader) - TBA
WV (Charleston Daily Mail) - Shelley Moore Capito (R); the Huntington Herald-Dispatch also endorsed SMC.
With the AK and SD endorsements pending, if the newspaper editorials decided the Senate, 4 Senate seats swing to Republicans, while 2 away from Republicans, for a net Republican gain of two (not enough for a Republican majority).
