(36,855 posts)Voting at a school - there were about 6 election officials and 10 or so machines (they were open - no curtains).
But this is deep in the heart of red Texas so maybe that's a good thing?

(1,846 posts)Very light turn out.
Very old, very white.
This used to be Joe Walsh's district so no surprise there.

(11,678 posts)as of 10 am, a high voter turnout. Over 1000 showed up at that point. I am looking forward to walking back down this afternoon after people come home from work.
Things seem to be good in this area.

(14,733 posts)Because I'm in a middle class white neighbourhood in Boehner's district that will mostly vote Republican. They'd do better to take 80-90% of our machines and put them down in one of the predominantly black neighbourhoods in Cincinnati or Dayton, where folks will probably be standing in lines for hours, but they won't. That would mean more Dem votes.

(6,603 posts)11:30 AM. According to the poll workers, they had been busy ever since the doors opened. This is a heavy red area, BUT the Democratic yards signs outnumber the Republican ones by a very large margin. We are cautiously optimistic. Our family delivered four votes for the Democratic candidates.

(61,021 posts)- as to usual that is more from others who said it was typical as this is our first state wide election as we moved here slightly less than 2 years ago.
One thing I can say is the optical scanner ballots were cool. A man working there explained to us that any over voting would lead to the ballot being rejected by the machine that immediately processes it. Once ok, the ballot's marks are added to the district's tallies. The ballot was very clear and straight forward.

(46,436 posts)There were 110 voters in that time, but the poll workers told me that that precinct gets really busy after work. It's a Democratic precinct.

I'm going to keep saying this today:
This is the most important day of the year for Democracy, it should be a federal holiday. When a politician tells you how important America is, how important our government is, and how we have the greatest government in the entire world, ask them why the one day every two years we have to exercise our right to vote is held on a workday when most people have 2 hours between 5 and 7 to run out and vote, after working all day.

(25,406 posts)We walked right up to the table with our names on the rolls, and were promptly handed ballots. Very short line to wait to get to a booth to mark our ballots, too.
I do definitely remember a long line of African-American voters from a nearby precinct waiting to get their ballots two years ago, I noticed very few black voters this time around. My lady says it was like 20%, I'd have to guess it at ten. Not a good sign, the Rethugs are running a stronger-than-usual candidate for the House, and I've only seen his signs around the area, none for his Democratic opponent, who just recently acquired our county in a redistricting.
