Newborn Stolen, Mother Shot Dead Outside Texas Hospital

SPRING, Texas — A newborn boy was abducted from his dying mother after she was repeatedly shot outside a suburban Houston pediatric center on Tuesday, according to investigators searching for the suspected shooter who sped off with the infant in a blood-stained Lexus.

The mother, 28-year-old Kayla Marie Golden, was walking to her pickup truck after a checkup with her 3-day-old son, Keegan, when she had a verbal altercation with a woman in a Lexus parked next to her, Montgomery County sheriff's Lt. Dan Norris said.

Witnesses said the woman repeatedly shot Golden, took her infant and sped away, hitting Golden as she screamed "my baby" and tried to reach into the Lexus, Norris said. Witnesses also reported hearing as many as seven gunshots and said a man also was in the Lexus, which is blood-stained on the driver's side, Norris said.

The infant was wearing a green-and-white one-piece outfit displaying the word "handsome."

The driver doesn't fit the "profile" of an infant abductor---and rarely do infant abductors carry guns or commit this type of violence.

This was either something VERY personal or VERY illegal.

The fact that there was a man with the female abductor tends to make me think that he isn't the father of the child...but because of the area, I wonder if they weren't trying to steal the baby to sell.

Regardless, I am happy that the baby was reunited with the Father.

The 3-day-old boy was found around 8 p.m., about six hours after his mother, Kala Marie Golden, was fatally shot following a verbal altercation in a parking lot, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said.

Ligon wouldn't say where the infant was found, but he said it wasn't at a nearby apartment complex where officers wielding guns and riot shields searched earlier Tuesday evening.

35. UPDATE: Woman charged for shooting mother; baby in CPS custody

HOUSTON—A woman has been charged for shooting a mother outside a Woodland-area pediatric center and kidnapping her baby Tuesday night.

Verna McClain, 30, has been charged with capital murder. She was in custody Wednesday morning. Her relationship to the family, if any, has not been identified.

Montgomery County deputies say that McClain got out of an ice-blue, four-door Lexus around 3:40 p.m. and shot the victim, Kala Golden, about seven times. She then fled with the baby.

An Amber Alert was issued for 3-day-old Keegan Schuchardt, who was found by DPS troopers around 8:15 p.m. at a residence off of FM 1960, where the parents of the defendant live.
