I guess it's not the same as the "sunny nobility" he saw in George W. Bush, but...
...oh, that Tweety.

(14,177 posts)I hate that guy.

(62,406 posts)he is rude, ill informed and obnoxious. Haven't watched him in years and refuse to watch when he does election coverage

(606 posts)He has youth appeal with his vague anti-war and pro-marijuana policies, but is clearly thought to be a house-broken dog because the Republicans are not moving against a Paul campaign. Clinton versus Paul would be a disaster; Democrats would be forced to campaign as the hawkish establishment side, which would depress our turn-out and probably not even slightly diminish Republican enthusiasm (given how top-down their structure is).
Comrade Grumpy
(13,184 posts)And he's teamed up with Cory Booker on a sentencing reform bill.
I think he's trying to be the Republican candidate who can win some black and brown votes.
I applaud his war on drugs stance and his work on sentencing reform. It's part of why I find him dangerous, too. Some of his policy positions are going to appeal to young, not-so-ideological people who don't like wars, at home or abroad, and for whom the Democratic Party is a bunch of stodgy old people. And if he can start making inroads into the black and brown vote...

(16,844 posts)knowing what the word means. They think being a libertarian is all about legalizing drugs, especially pot, and staying out of other countries' affairs. If it were only that simple. Rand Paul wants to run as a Republican (wink, wink) Libertarian, and people will probably come out of the woodwork to vote for him because he uses that label. Of course he has no intention of doing the things he'll promise to do, but this country is full of suckers who like to be told what they want to hear. It's not so much that they love Rand Paul. They love what he represents to them in their feeble little minds.

(12,754 posts)libertarianism was a utopian fantasy and totally unworkable. In it's current incarnation it is propagated by corporatists to avoid regulation, taxes, laws, etc. It is followed by simpletons.

Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who's physical, who's not a complicated guy like Clinton or even like Dukakis or Mondale, all those guys, McGovern. They want a guy who's president. Women like a guy who's president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president. It's simple. We're not like the Brits."

MATTHEWS: Can you smell the English leather on this guy, the Aqua Velva, the sort of mature mans shaving cream, or whatever, you know, after he shaved? Do you smell that sort ofa little bit of cigar smoke? You know, whatever.
