Florida State Senator Nan Rich of the 34th District including Miami-Dade and Broward Counties will be running for Governor against Rick Scott in 2014! Senator Rich is currently the Democratic Minority Leader of the Florida Legislature.
I don't know much about Ms. Rich. Anyone wise enough about Fl politics to offer an opinon on whether or not she has a chance, and will be good for Flordia?

(44,514 posts)Even as minority leader, she's still probably lacking in name recognition as it relates to most voters. However, the general distaste for Rick Scott in this state (even among some Republicans) and the desire to get rid of him might help compensate for lack of name recognition.

Given that Nan hails from most liberal part of Florida (Broward & N. Miami-Dade Counties), chances are she'll be too liberal to win over enough to the moderately-conservative retirees in the central part of the state. Florida Democrats need to find a center-left Democrat to peel away enough of the I-4 corridor voters to win a statewide race in Florida. Sadly, the Democratic Party has been out of power for so long in Florida, the farm team is sorely lacking any well-known names (except for maybe Bud Chiles, who's made some gaffes over the past several years).

(3,003 posts)Alex Sink would be ideal. She almost won in 2010 and remember, that was a very bad year for the Democrats. Many "swing" voters who halfheartedly voted for Rick Scott last time would definitely switch to Sink this time and I can't imagine too many Sink voters from 2010 being so impressed with Scott now that they'd vote for him now.
