New York cops slaps citizen for not allowing him to search car

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=290_1415427089

Saratoga County Deputy Shawn Glans had no idea he was being recorded as he tried to intimidate a man into allowing him to search his car, which is why he slapped him on the back of his head while yanking the keys out of his hand, tossing them to another deputy who searched the man's car and found nothing illegal.

But he does know now after Adam Roberts uploaded the video to Facebook where it began going viral Friday.

In a Facebook message interview with Photography is Not a Crime, Roberts explained that he and his buddy, Colin Fitch, who owns the car, had parked it at a business that was closed and walked to a nearby party Thursday night. They didn’t spend much time at the party but when they walked back to the car, they were confronted by deputies who had spotted a rifle in the back seat and wanted to search the car.

Firth had purchased a .22 rifle earlier that day and had left it in the back seat, Roberts said. When Deputy Glans asked to search the car, Fitch would not give him permission, insisting he had done nothing illegal.

Unfortunately, that slapping part was not caught on video, but the sound of the slap is loud and clear. But he followed it up by making more threats, proving to be the real asshole

What a dick...

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/11/you-wanna-fcking-resist-ny-sheriffs-deputy-caught-slapping-man-on-camera/

Glans was the subject of a $60 million lawsuit filed against both the county and the town of Wilton after he lost control of his patrol car and crashed into Douglas H. McEachron’s car in March 1996. Glans was driving at more than 60 mph at the time of the collision, three times the local speed limit. McEachron, a father of six, suffered a traumatic brain injury and lost his sight. One of his children was appointed as his legal guardian following the crash.

The Albany Times-Union reported in 1999 that the city and the county agreed to pay a $6 million settlement to McEachron’s family. Though a jury found Glans to be negligent, he was not required to pay any part of the settlement.

“If Doug had been in the sheriff’s deputy’s shoes, Doug would have been in prison now,” McEachron’s girlfriend, Melinda Dingley, said at the time.

I'm not going to attack the victim for doing something that isn't illegal. The gun wasn't left just sitting there for the taking. It was in a locked container. That police spotted it had more to do with the fact that they routinely investigate cars parked alone in lots, using flashlights to look inside. Normal people don't do that.

His wife, Carrie, who is a medical provider, said her husband has been under a lot of emotional and physical stress and that she's concerned how the video and any fallout may portray their family in the community.

"What my husband did and how he reacted wasn't the correct way to do it, but there were circumstances that came about beforehand," she said. "He's had a very hard year."

The cop has had a hard year, and that gives him the justification to smack a suspect, and conduct an illegal search and seizure.

If the cop killer in Pennsylvania has had a hard year, is that reason why we should be understanding? He's had a lot of stuff going on, and it's been a hard year man.
