Now I am not one for conspiracy theories but I was working for my little intelligence group and was able to confirm that this is Abu Du'a. Not just because of his likelihood but because a French reporter who has been to Syria during the conflict was able to identify the photo as him and because of the man's strange behavior.

This is not the poorly angled photos that the WaPo supposedly debunked with four Pinocchios. These are from Mouaz Mustafa's archived photos. This is a front angle, I also have another photo with the signature silver rolex watch at the same meeting.
Notice that the man alleged to be Abu Du'a (al-Baghdadi) is shaking hands with Salim Idris as an outsider. Salim would be his commanding officer (if it was just another FSA commander) and it is extremely unlikely that he would be shaking hands with this man. The focal and digital distortions of the database photos make it rather difficult to compare with portraits , it seems not so unlikely after these new revealing photos.
This should not surprise Democrats, and we should not be shepherded by the milquetoast media. May I remind you that McCain's foreign career essentially started with meeting rich Pinochet backers in support at the request of the Reagan administration and the CIA director at the time. This is after the September 22, 1976 car-bombing in Washington DC linked to Pinochet's DINA which was comprised of the very men McCain met with.
John McCain also met with literal Libyan Al-Quadea members (not generalizing) and Neo-Nazis of Svoboda (party of the Joseph Goebbels Institute) and Right Sector (ardent worshipers of Nazi Stepan Bandera), responsible for burning down multiple trade union buildings in Ukraine. Please do not put a meeting with Abu Du'a past this man.
This must be a point of Democratic mobilization, and is the only way to stop a war (or two) since the Democrats have been so flimsy over war! Because we lost elections due to our inability to criticize Republicans; we need to start indictments and we need to come down strong! Stop two future wars! #ArrestMcCain4ISIS!
Thank you,

(23,272 posts)1. McCain is a foreign policy idiot
2. How impossible it has always been to say whose a "bad guy" in these conflicts. The US simply does not understand the region.
McCain thought these were good, moderate rebels if I recall correctly. These pics were from when he went to Syria to try to make a point that the US would support the moderates in their fight against Assad. It's too simplistic to malign the Republicans as funding ISIS (although its not a bad strategy now that we have clearer pics) since even Obama is on record as wanting to support the moderate rebels.
Bottom line for me is underscored that we should not be meddling there. Period. Full stop.

(32,723 posts)Or, it was the intention of the Republicans to create an enemy so they could claim to be the tough guy heroes that will save us and make Obama look weak.
So that would mean McCain was simply the face of the Republican Party. A former presidential candidate and veteran so he's beyond prosecution in The Beltway and the Republicans could fall back on McCain's reputation of being a slightly mental old man acting alone if it ever came out.
