(21,078 posts)the show from Bob Horn. Lincoln Transit out of Atlantic City right into Philly. I was shocked at how small the studio was. "Bob and Justine" were THE couple back in the day. B and J are now in their mid to late '70s if they're still with us....My, how the time goes by...

(24,853 posts)A few years ago I was channel surfing on a rainy Saturday afternoon and happened to hit a rerun of an old show and there was my good friend, as a jr. high schooler, dancing like a total dork!
When he answered the phone a minute later, these were his first words: "Please don't tell me you saw what I just saw." I started HOWLING with laughter and he went on to explain that he was on with his older sister because she had broken up with her boyfriend the day before and HIS DAD MADE HIM GO WITH HER!
To this day, when we're drunk and together with our longtime social circle, I always kid him with a "C'mon John, dance for us..." He HATES that. He never told any of our other friends about it because he was embarrassed and I've managed to keep his secret. I still give him grief over it though.

(21,078 posts)Pleasantville High School with some lame excuse of a doctor's appointment and I think she did the same. We would meet at the bus station and be on our way. All was well until she got to school the next day and the nuns told her she needed to sharpen her dancing skills. The nuns were devoted to AB, many Catholic High Schools from the Philly area would be on and they had their own little competitive streaks going on. They were from the Sisters of St. Joseph's Order in Philly and would brag how their uniforms were better and they were better dancers. What a hoot, she laughed like crazy and then they called her parents. She didn't get into too much trouble though...Happy memories.

(27,247 posts)Using every opportunity to resurrect an unpleasant memory of a friend and rub it in his face qualifies one for a high position in Dorkdom.

(24,853 posts)The next time "The Gang" is all together, and John-Boy reminds me and the rest of the group of when I puked about half a gallon of Sloe Gin and Seven-Up on the Sheriff Deputy's boots during a DUI stop, I'll point him to this post.
Then I'll ask him to dance.
It's kinda how we roll. Every person in my social circle has an infamous moment going back to jr. high or earlier that nearly always gets brought up when we're together camping, partying, or wherever we are. And we're in our fifties.

(27,247 posts)But, speaking for myself, I would rather not be reminded of stupid stuff that I did in junior high. Or high school, for that matter. One reason why I was itching to leave my hometown after high school.

(22,742 posts)ago - but remember vividly what I wore to the show. Black taffeta skirt, patent leather shoes and a white ruffly blouse. Of course my hair was in a page-boy. I was scared to death that I would fall.

To me he was one of the two guys in those dumb "sweepstakes" commercials.

(43,850 posts)Let's try this instead.
People are mourning the passing of someone who created a wonderful thing in their lives. The Great Equalizer has done its work and you can't accomplish anything by pissing on his grave. So knock it off.

This country and world are diverse places. Not everybody is going to agree with you on every issue. Rather than celebrating his death, perhaps you should be celebrating the fact that we were able to co-exist with Dick Clark and still lead fulfilling lives. Celebration of diversity doesn't need to stop exactly where you want it to.

I'm asking because of the hate posted above. I'm not a fan of right-wing corporate types, either; but we have to give him the props for integrating television, at least.
Dick was an okay guy...
