President Obama to announce immigration action NEXT WEEK...

President Barack Obama will take action on immigration reform as early as next week, Fox News reported on Wednesday. The decision, which Fox said may be announced as soon as Nov. 21, could prevent millions of deportations under a policy known as "deferred action."

Obama's plan would apply to both undocumented immigrants who came the U.S. as children and the undocumented parents of current U.S. citizens and residents.

The president had been set to take executive action months ago, but delayed the move until after the midterm elections. The day after the elections, Obama told reporters that he planned to make an announcement by the end of the year.

"What we can't do is just keep on waiting," he said. "There's a cost for waiting."

urging of Congress to act on immigration. THEN, by executive action if Congress
doesn't meaningfully move forward. I'm afraid an executive order first could and
probably will cause a big hullabaloo.

It just adds to the seeming inability of Congress to get down to business
and they will use an executive action to strengthen their base as if they're
actually trying to get something done...for a change. Poppycock.

all of a sudden?

Frankly, the more hell we can raise and the less we keep this Congress from doing the better off we ALL will be.

I don't understand why you think we should let this congress "get down to business" so it looks like it takes a sweep election of Republicans to get anything done.

I'm all set for the next 2 years of absolute hell. We have nothing to lose. I'd like to see some DEMs start raising hell for a change.

unitary executive branch....not what the framers of the constitution had
in mind. Neither one of us should worry...Congress will still be as lack
luster as usual and the Dems will do little hell raising. imho

This is an interesting list of EOs by all Presidents. Early on in the country
Presidents seemed to have a bit more restraint in using this power.

he is going to act. The repubs want him to issue an Executive Order so they can gin up support to impeach him, they didn't learn anything from the impeachment of Clinton, they will pay a big price of they go down that route. I think President Obama will issue an Executive Order on this and let the chips fall where they may.

at large probably isn't....short memories and all. An effort toward
my suggestion would only make an executive action easier to
swallow and take some of the steam out of a repub response.
That is all. imho

We will soon know but letting "the chips fall where they may" is
disconcerting to me.

Congress needs to act or he will. How long should he give Congress to act? It's already been over a year and nothing, the new session will start in the New Year and the repubs have already said they aren't going to act. I believe Congress will sit something like 8 whole days in December before this session ends and the repubs take control of the Senate. Some public want the President to act, would have liked him to have acted at the end of summer which was the previous deadline set for Congress to act.

He can't back out of that, especially after delaying action on his earlier promise.

And the House GOP leadership has been sitting far too long on the bipartisan Senate bill. They have no intention of acting on it, and whatever the President does or does not do will be criticized and used as a pretext for continued inaction.

as well as doing what is right finally. Unfortunately Executive Orders last only as long as the current President is in office unless the next President doesn't rescind them. If the next President is a republican this Executive Order will be rescinded almost immediately there is no doubt. It's up to the voters whether they want a Democratic Congress or a republican one. A Democratic Congress will pass an Immigration Reform bill, a republican one won't.

Hispanics will be hating the GOP. That's why I don't think they will, even with all the support of their base. Of course, the teabaggers will revolt if they don't impeach him. I fucking love the position he's putting them in. He's daring them.
