This question occurred to me while reading another thread about the ACA - a thread I fervently did not want to get involved with.
My husband will be retiring at the end of this year. I've already set up an account at HealthCare.gov and gotten a preliminary look at possible plans and how much our subsidy might be. But we are not sure how much our income will be next year - we have estimates but not actual figures.
I called and talked to one of the helpers at the HealthCare.gov phone lines and she said that at any time during the year we can go onto the site to our account and put in updated figures on our income so our subsidies can be adjusted.
Has anyone here done that? Did it work for you? How complicated was it? Were you happy with the results?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

(34,189 posts)We're going to be living on very little so I really don't want to pay more than we have to - that's why the need to adjust the estimates once we see what is actually coming in. At the preliminary estimates for our income, based on last year, we get a decent subsidy and have to pay about $225 a month for a good silver plan. I also figured a guestimate for how much we will make this year and the amounts were not far off that - but our income will certainly be less next year. So if we can adjust it during the year, we will have to pay less per month which will help our budget a LOT.
From what the lady at the HealthCare.gov line told me, it's easy to adjust our estimated income online and if our subsidy increases, it will be reflected quickly in our monthly payments. I was just wondering if anyone had actually done that. and what their results had been.
