Healthcare for millions of Americans is at stake in the latest Affordable Care Act challenge to reach the U.S. Supreme Court -- and if the Court sides with the challengers, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and other Koch-funded groups will have laid the groundwork for the healthcare law's destruction.
On November 7, the Court granted review of the case King v. Burwell, which argues that the ACA should be read as prohibiting insurance premium subsidies for low-income citizens in states that refused to set up their own online healthcare exchanges -- which is contrary to the clear intent of the law's drafters and to a reading of the law as a whole. The chief advocate for the ACA interpretation of the ACA advanced by the King plaintiffs is Michael Cannon, a fellow at the Koch-funded Cato Institute.

The tapes are not a coincidence. It is a coordinated effort to soften the blow of SCOTUS destroying millions of lives. And those on our side claiming they're outraged are either willing participants in this dastardly effort or ALEC's useful idiots.

(48,991 posts)Democrats who as you say " are ALEC's useful idiots " and are "outraged " over what the dip shit said are just that. Democrats who are pissed off at what he said. What do you want them to do? Praise him? Stroke him? Or just shut up and don't talk about it on a Democratic forum for... talking about things?

(8,710 posts)Autumn never said anything like that.
It's entirely possible to be in favor of the ACA (until single payer is possible) and still be pissed at Gruber for saying that it passed because we were all too stupid to understand what was happening.

(25,406 posts)I'm surprised that this stuff didn't come out before the election. Gruber's fat yap just stiffened the spine of the 'repeal Obamacare' movement, who I had hoped was losing some steam.
Autumn
(48,991 posts)the day the ACA was signed into law? The republicans will never lose steam on trying to repeal it until Obama is out of office then they will be happy with it.

(25,406 posts)it gets harder and harder to repeal a law providing benefits for a growing number of people who come to appreciate them, and frankly, cannot live without them.
What if a Gruber-like character came around some eighty years ago, and talked about what fools the American people would be for letting the government take money from young people and giving it to old people through Social Security, and that ever-expanding population growth rates would be needed to keep the scheme going?

And these people would not all strike you as people who somehow deserve this because they've been getting some kind of free ride all along.
Good, honest people are being made poorer by ACA.

(2,620 posts)The lie is that the ACA plan would turn the cost-curve DOWN - when it doesn't.
Sure we got a new plan - but it's going to cost MUCH more than they said it would.
Doesn't bother you - just a little bit?
