I don't know what 'soapbox ' is for?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Odin2005 (a host of the General Discussion forum).

Is this part of what used to be GD?
Maybe we should have a statement of purpose pinned as the first post on the new forums?
Or did I miss that?
I'm really confused.
