Apparently Mike Rowe had some
words of wisdom
for a
liberal troll
that now have the reich wingers all in a right wing circle jerk over their newest hero.

(24,876 posts)He might very well have some opinions that aren't savory to many DU'ers, but the fact is, he is in favor of the working man. He understands that decent, good paying jobs go wanting because our education system tends to ignore the "trades"
"Dirty Jobs" did a great service in showcasing people who, in his words, "make everyday life possible"

(30,068 posts)but I like the guy for that exact reason. My dad worked in tool and diecast, other family members worked in different types of machine shops or in foundries, factories and warehouses. I'm pretty proud of the work and I wish others were just as proud.

(9,445 posts)A liberal commentator, Jim Green, after a mini rant asked Mike Rowe how he could be a Republican and how any Christian could got for the Republican Party. Rowe responded in a tweet. Republicans/Conservatives seem of be enjoying the response. Rowe called out Green for the things he said and the way he said them.

(30,068 posts)It's not that bad.
Let's be honest-there are less-than savory characters on both sides of the political spectrum. After reading the article it sounds like the original poster on Rowe's FB page is one of them, possibly using his page for publicity. It happens.
As to the RW getting excited: he didn't say he was a Republican. He didn't say he was a Democrat. From what I understand, he's regularly called himself an Independent, which is what most voters call themselves. He said that he has voted for a Republican at times, same as most of the people I know. (Actually, I'm one of the few people I personally know that has not voted R, except for one incident and that was all about an organized effort to get the worst candidate on the ballot during the primaries.)
What I do like about Rowe is that he is a big advocate of funding for the trades. I 100% agree with him about the trades. More funding needs to be offered and, IMO, trade school should be very inexpensive if not free. Guidance counselors should offer it as a proud option to students and more jobs should be available with a trade school certification in some fields instead of expecting someone to obtain a four year degree. There's nothing wrong with working that gets physical, that has someone on their feet all day, that might get them dirty. For that reason alone I tend to like the guy, since my father was in tool and diecast and other family members have been machinists.

.... If you really want to persuade thoughtful people that Christians cant vote for Republicans and remain Christian, youll need to appear credible - not hysterical. Lower case should work just fine. ....
5. Regarding your overall claim, Im not an authority on Republicans or Christians, but last I checked, America is still populated by plenty of both. Unless you wish to alienate a majority of the country, you might consider something a tad more conciliatory. ....
Im not a registered Republican, but from time to time, I have voted like one. ....

(21,691 posts)I read it as when you add those two groups - Republicans and Christians - you get a majority, which I think is fair enough; most in the US would identify as Christian and that alone is a "majority of the country."

(2,273 posts)It kind of makes it a majority when you look at both of them. There are plenty of Dem Christians who get offended when they get lumped into the right wing category.
