What to do if your crazy right-wing uncle comes for Thanksgiving

In that vein, I say: Progressives, engage your conservative family members. Tell them you accept their apology for endlessly pounding the drum of Benghazi when even the Republican House now admits that there was nothing scandalous there. Reassure them that the president is wholly within his authority to defer deportations on 5 million undocumented immigrants -- but encourage them to demonstrate really loudly against this executive action so that Democrats can win the Latino vote for a generation.

And conservatives, please, challenge your lefty family members. Boast proudly of your well-fought electoral victories this fall. Point out how, despite all its populist propaganda, the White House has still managed to deliver only full economic recovery for the country’s wealthiest, while everyone else struggles. Embarrass the liberals with jokes about the administration’s screw-ups on Obamacare, Iraq and the Veterans Administration. Encourage them to keep overreaching so that your party can take the White House in 2016.

Whatever side you’re on, remember that if you’re sitting one on one with someone you disagree with, your goal is to learn more about their point of view -- but if you’ve got other people watching the debate, your goal is to win over people who haven't made up their minds or who have less strong opinions.

and no people. I will be spending the holiday with my three best friends. Cats don't do politics, at least not human politics. They have their own things going on and I don't get involved.

But why are you supporting the people who want to rape and pillage our countries natural resources leaving you with poisoned undrinkable water, foul air and respiratory illnesses where you live?. And the billionaires making more money while you get the negative consequences.

And you like that social security? Paul Ryan, the GOP budget guru wants to turn the money over to Wall Street instead of administrative costs being 2-3% wall street will skim at least 25% in fees making the fund run out sooner. We could fund it indefinitely if we took off the cap in earnings.

These are facts and then stop talking politics. I say drop a truth filled insightful comment and leave it right there.

I also love to ask questions like, how was your gun taken away or what tyranny have you experienced since Obama has been President? I made my right wing nephew's head explode because I kept asking him questions. Then just stand back, don't debate them just let them talk. listen but don't debate back, just ask questions to show you are listening to them.

It works. You can at least disrupt their foxbot mania for a couple of hours.

Don't argue back and take the bait.

that's what I do every year and it makes for a lovely holiday with people that I politically loathe, but love in every other way.

I don't allow any Rethugs in my house. I don't care if they're related or not. If you're in favor of returning people of color to slavery, of stripping women of civil rights, of stealing elections, of enriching the rich while allowing everyone else to rot, then you stay away from me and mine.
