In the daytime, you have a lot of work commuters, kids in school, tourists out and about, commercial and economic activity that is significantly higher than at night time. At night there are a lot less people in the area other than those who live immediately nearby.

We did the same thing when I was in Iraq. We did our raids at night because the traffic was a lot less. We would roll out to the targets house after 2100 because no traffic, most businesses were closed and the targets and their families were almost definitely home when we rolled up on them.

You might not like the timing, but it makes a certain amount of sense.

...upon hearing that this decision was going to be released at night was "What the hell for? Are people hoping for a riot?" To do this in the dark of night seems to be phenomenally bad timing - everything is harder to discern at night. More excuses for people getting shot when nobody can tell what the hell is going on BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SEE!

After dinner, most people who wouldn't be protesting would be at home; school night, young kids would be home (hopefully) doing homework...All the "Good, Honest Folks" will be home getting ready to turn in at night and won't be out doing naughty things like protesting a perfectly legal grand jury finding like all those angry people from that side of town that just don't know any better because they believe all those liberal lies...

And then, of course, there's a cover of darkness and the odd light effects from streetlights that will allow any Klansman with a mask be harder to identify if maybe they want to incite a little riot. And of course, no one will be able to identify the police officer that might have shot at them.
Or maybe the whole Ferguson situation is just a problem with a bunch of riled-up thugs out shooting they can't just hang out and steal cigarillos whenever they want... again

I heard some dipshit teabagger at work actually make similar statements to that effect today...sans the cover of darkness and the Klansman, of course. White people don't riot in his tiny white world. As he said, all un-thinking - "They don't have to..."

When the PTB had told the protesters to stay home AT NIGHT and only come out in the daytime.

They're more likely to get caught up in the conflict. By doing it at night, they were probably trying to limit the amount of 'innocent' people or non-involved people about.

I guess that's what they were thinking. Maybe.

Many people would be at work and any demonstrations during the day would probably have been more peaceful in daylight. Doing it after dark seemed like they were poking the bear IMHO. I thought about it while we were waiting but said nothing because no one else seemed to be on the same page.

It's as if there is a faction in this country, probably driven by the likes of hate radio (Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Palin) to "do it"…
