big 'ol red state of tennessee: I-24 shut down as protesters block roadway

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -


Protesters shut down Interstate 24 in both directions twice Tuesday evening.

Dozens of people gathered at the Criminal Justice Center Tuesday evening for a vigil following Monday's announcement in Ferguson, MO, that Ofc. Darren Wilson would not be charged in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The vigil turned into a march as people headed to Broadway. Police blocked streets as the protesters lied down in the roadway for a moment of silence.

The protesters then made their way to LP Field and onto I-24 near Woodland Street.

I'm hearing there are protestors on I-65 too. Don't know what's going down in Louisville now, but I know earlier they had a bridge shut down.

Glad to see some of that protest spirit has survived into the 21st century. For all the perceptions of Tennessee, the city of Nashville is one of the good places anywhere.
