She needs to make a big deal concerning the fact that Right Wing Asshats wont come on her show..
Every day I feel that she should have a segment entitled...Why wont he/she appear on my show..In this segment she challenges the Republican Idiot on a specific issue, calling he/she out and inviting them on the show for their responses..If she does this enough, (keeps Pressing) in my opinion, it would eventually get national attention. forcing replies from these dumb and cowardly right wing politicians..
Right now I get the feeling that Rachael just preaches to the Choir.. Yes ,incredibly informative and well put together, but it is missing the tension of confrontation... And she could do it and do it well..
This all came to light after the horrendous job Chris Hayes did with Mo Brooks last week.. Really pissed me off that Chris let Brooks run all over him..

(75,480 posts)I'm sick of the RW assholes that the liberals insist on having. All they do is shout over everyone their prefab talking points that make no sense anyway. No one comes out informed IMHO.

(53,410 posts)She does a great job of putting things in context and showing the connections of all the dots. No story is complete all by itself in the now. She shows us that and it educates. I'm very grateful that she treats her audience with respect for our intelligence.

(8,515 posts)Eventually they would have to step up, especially since I feel the Republicans will have to start answering questions when the next congress starts up.. Wont have the convenient excuse of Its the Senates Fault"

(39,343 posts)Some people turn to Fox because that's what they want to hear (and they know what's going to be said).
Some people turn to MSNBC because that's what they want to hear (and they know what's going to be said).
Some people turn to CNN to see if they ever found that missing airplane.
Repubs use Fox to bash the President and Democrats. Democrats use MSNBC to....um, wait for it.
I don't watch cable 'news' because I already know what's going to be said and what slant is going to be provided. It's like watching professional wrestling (just like Obama said). Oh no, Mitch McConnel is going to hit someone with a folding chair, who could have seen that move coming....

(9,066 posts)She was at one time quite consistent in mentioning it loudly and proudly. She has gotten a few and still does but it's rare. She always asks the other side to come on or give their side > they don't reply or decline to appear.
When republicans have come on she has treated them with respect, most times asking some tough questions and challenging them.
She may even scoff at them from time to time but still with a certain professionalism and respect. The Koch brothers are probably telling them not to go on since they have now written her twice telling her how she should do her job. I guess they think they can push her around since she is a woman or something.

(14,449 posts)But the ratings really don't justify them going on since it won't be seen by many eyeballs. If her show was a success they would be knocking on her door.

(50,260 posts)She is the lone interviewer who might ask, "So it doesn't bother you cutting food stamps will cause small children to go to bed hungry?" And when the rightie tried to answer anything but the question, she'd press it. And press it. And press it.

(39,451 posts)talking about Ebola!! Yes, do a segment on it, but where was the discussion of the implications of the midterms?
She did get back on track in the days before but spent way too much time talking about ebola. She has a microphone and a following. She could have done more to motivate voters.
If I wanted non-stop ebola coverage I would have watched CNN.
She did the same thing with Bridgegate. Yes, it was Rachael that brought it to the public's attention but that was all she talked about for weeks.
I agree with you about Chris Hayes - I saw that interview.
Lawrence O'Donnell is doing the best reporting, imho.
And there is Al Jazeera.

Lets give them the opportunity to show their ignorance.. But we must do it smartly.
Very few left sided Pundits are good at backing these idiots into a corner.
Rachael is one ,so is Lawrence.. Very few others are able..

(4,072 posts)They get a vastly better audience on Fox and no challenge to their worldview.
Maddow is possibly the best their is on TV, but MSNBC really is just preaching to the choir now. Their ratings suck and continue to slide from what I've seen. Additionally, NBC news is apparently increasingly uncomfortable with being this closely associated with an almost all progressive network.
If ratings don't improve, I would not be shocked to see MSNBC go away from its current format and focus on human interest stories and more "lockup" type shows (which actually do get good ratings).

(8,515 posts)I would watch it all day...
Trick is to force these morons on the show by calling out their cowardice on a daily basis.
they would eventually have to respond....

(4,119 posts)First...I can't stomach listening to them.
Second...what's the point? Even if she managed to put them on the spot, we would be the only ones seeing it. Those who need to see it would be glued to FOX NEWS.

(8,515 posts)pick up the ignorance and stupidity of the Republicans.. Especially if the story is big enough..
For instance, when about 4 yrs yrs ago Maddow pinned Rand Pauls Ass to the wall.. If Rand Paul becomes the nominee, the interview will hurt him....
Jamaal510
(10,893 posts)takes a bit too long to get to the main point in the stories she presents, so that's why I'm not too crazy about her show and prefer other hosts like Ed and Rev. Al. I'll watch her if I'm desperate for something on TV, but she's not my favorite.
I agree with the OP's suggestion, though. It does get stale with all the echo chambers and telling the audience what to think. I want to see some more wingnuts on the MSNBC primetime shows in general so that they and the hosts can pit their ideas against each other. I'm sure that the hosts wouldn't mind much, anyway, but the wingnuts are afraid of a challenge. All they seem to do is appear on either Morning Joe, Andrea Mitchell, or on Chuck Todd just to be able to say that they've been on MSNBC before.

(813 posts)only one I watch, IS because of the backstory. I hate those five minute interviews without context. This is the thing she is brilliant at and I appreciate knowing "the rest of the story."

(8,515 posts)They could be forced to appear if Rachael provides a list during every show of Republicans who refuse to appear..Over and over and over again!!!
Your typical liberal good guy ( lets not confront or angrily challenge Republican liars) are part of the reason we are in this mess.. We dont stand tall.. You should understand this by how weakly we ran away from our POTUS during our last election.. What a mess we are... And you state, we should behave?
elleng
(130,861 posts)and let the others' ridiculous behavior shine through.
They should be called out when they lie.
We can stand tall without appearing to be bullies, but maintaining our positions firmly, which many did NOT do during our last elections.

(23,645 posts)any MSNBC show because they DON'T HAVE TO! They have their base locked up and have no desire to be questioned by an intelligent female or for that matter male...Chris Hayes and Lawrence O'Donnell. As long as they appear on Faux Snooze and the Sunday Shows, MSNBC does nothing for them. They do not need the MSNBC viewer.
