Last post!
I have been a DU member for 10 years, came here because of the progressive mindset of the members and the integrity demanded when one was posting.

That is mostly gone now, and replaced with much vitriol and attacking others for not conforming to their own beliefs, something I could get anywhere else.

DU was a great place to get the late breaking news before it was breaking and keeping up with current events, but now it has become a place of coercion and hate. We have gone from being a voice against war to a voice for violence. And not violence directed at anyone but just violence with the thinking that it will change the situation.

In the last week I have been flamed for being a pacifist and compared to Hitler and GOP figures because I don't believe that violence will resolve this nations justice issues. So I guess it is time for me to go and find another place that is still progressive and let you all fight it out because I just don't have it in me to support violence.

Good Bye!

There are some topics I won't even ask questions about, because of the likelihood of being attacked as a lover/hater of something.

There are far, far too many attempts to shut down discussion or discredit a perspective, and I believe those attempts are deliberate.

I'm not familiar with you as a poster, but the fact that you are also bothered by this makes me wish you would stay

I don't keep track of individual posters ....

But I've never had this problem.

I find DU by-and-large still a very progressive place and mostly respectful.

Sure there are the crazies, but I guess I don't take a political bulletin board web site like this too seriously.

48,000+ posts is an indication of someone maybe spending an inordinate amount of time at DU.

If 'liberal N proud' is getting too wrapped-up in the verbal jousting, then perhaps it is best to take an extended break.

Think it over.

At the very least, the admins should get some constructive advice.

Do you think the new jury system is part of the problem or do you think all the drama and hate would have come no matter what?

Hope we aren't seeing the end of your membership, just a break.

Seriously though, I don't think anyone that takes politics seriously can avoid getting burnt out, a little pissed off or just annoyed as hell at some of the obnoxiousness on the tubes even in a semi-moderated forum like this. So take break and hope you still come around.

I just don't take it that seriously anymore. When posters whose contributions consist of emoticans and the ever popular "DU sucks and the posters are all crazy but I am going to post here anyway" are allowed to stink up the place it gets tiresome.

Just lurk, take the good and screw the bad.

There is a lot of good information here.

I have been reading/lurking at DU for a long time, and things have changed. Your eloquent post made me decide to come out of lurk mode. It seems like a rigid group think mode has taken over, as you say, and if you have a different view, then you are attacked at the drop of a hat. It is sad to see this type of group think. DU used to be a lot different, and welcomed differing opinions, and also there was a lot less attacking and name-calling, I agree with you. As you point out, it seems like a theme of "You must conform, and think the same way I do!" has taken over.

Take care, and maybe the admins will seriously consider your post, and make much needed changes.
