(15,652 posts)I just saw a Facebook post about keeping a database of cops who have been dismissed for misconduct so they can't show up in someone else's jurisdiction. I'd like to see that. How is it that the dead guy is always the one people want to do a background check on?
So, yeah, the more databases the better. I hope one day this one won't be needed.

(18,124 posts)of the nut job that killed the 12 year old Tamir Rice in Cleveland might have prevented that tragedy. Not guaranteed of course, they might have hired him anyway knowing he was a fucking nut wacko with a badge and a gun.

(60,010 posts)Here, to make it easier:
I publish and write for the LA Progressive, an online social justice magazine.
I was writing a piece about an unarmed 18 yr old Black male teenager who was 54? and weighed 135 lbs when he was mistaken for a 62? 250lb mature Black man and then shot seven times by San Bernardino County (California) Sheriffs.
As I did my research for the article I just couldnt find a national database that was easily accessible that contained data on the use of deadly force, across the nation, against unarmed citizens. So I began to create my own. That small spreadsheet became this site. I worked with an I.T. professional, Martin Williams, to help me create the site that you see today.

(19,326 posts)but it will prove useful when posting about police abuse.
I've heard that such a list did not exist, because the DoJ did not keep track of it,
and that even if they did keep track, no one could one tall if the victim that was
shot by police was armed or unarmed.
I'm so glad someone finally somehow pulled this together.
