US Attorney General Eric Holder made the announcement Wednesday evening, in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict the police officer responsible for placing Garner in a chokehold. The investigation will consider whether or not police violated Garner's civil rights.
Prosecutors will conduct an independent, thorough, and fair investigation, Holder said, including a "complete review" of material gathered during the local investigation.

(444 posts)James Boyd back shooting? And nothing much came of it? Remeber Boyd, the homeless mentally ill guy that was camping illegally and was shot by a rogue cop who was hired and the police chief of Alberqueque promised the public that officer Sandy would not be allowed to carry a gun?
We can hoipe but I am not optimistic. Especial;ly when the city of New York has been violating civil rights for years and the DOJ has never said diddly about that well known practice by NTPD.

(10,998 posts)The abq cops attacks on the homeless and mentally I'll have been horrifying and sad. It's good the doj finally stepped in. Since then abq has been murder-by-cop-free. But still the murderous cops face no charges. Except for Jeremy Dear who was fired for repeatedly not turning on his lapel camera..

Everyone who watches the video now is as credible as someone there at the time.
