Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) slipped and told a conservative radio host on Friday that she did not vote for President Obama.
It was a heated exchange and a source close to the Landrieu campaign said the Louisiana Democrat meant that she didnt vote in lockstep with the president all of the time, but the Black Conservatives Fund seized on the remark and is pushing it out to black voters on Election Day.
On Friday, Landrieu appeared on the morning show of radio host and Tea Party supporter Jeff Crouere, and the two engaged in a combative exchange.
At one point near the end of the interview, Landrieu nearly hung up, but ultimately stayed on and continued with the call.
...
Landrieu shot back that she was not a rubber stamp for Obama, and argued that ObamaCare was not the presidents signature legislative achievement because he and other liberals wanted a single-payer healthcare system. She said she voted for the Affordable Care Act because she believed it would help Louisianans.

(31,464 posts)There are no Democrats left in the South anyway, and she sure isn't helping. Hand the whole shebang over to the GOP...it will be like Blue Northeast and Blue West Coast. She's done. She's cooked. Sorry, Mary, it was fun while it lasted. Maybe you should have actually acted like a Democrat.

(62,325 posts)right wing 'dems' in order to 'win'.
I don't agree that a Dem cannot win in any state, but you have to FIGHT for what you want. It suits those who want both parties filled with Corporate puppets to tell that lie to the public.
She won't be missed, I wouldn't be surprised if she voted for Bush. Lieberman, another 'dem' we were told we needed, didn't vote for Obama either airc.
The Dem Party needs a complete overhaul at this point. There are far too many 'Landrieus' in it and we don't 'win' anything by keeping them there. We tried that already.
I remember her sucking up to Bush during Katrina when she had the opportunity to BLAST him for his criminal negligence of those people.

(5,158 posts)And at this point, it really won't make much of a difference. Repukes already have the Senate and she was never a true Democrat to begin with.

(23,946 posts)liberal ally with an unbecoming oil streak, but she voted for Obama and vote for his policies the vast majority of the time, twisting of words changes nothing.
And remember she was not the only one to inexplicably abandon Obama. Landreiu slept with oil, Grimes with coal, several more slept with the Obamacsre haters, but they are all light years ahead of the alternatives.
Litmus tests are for cults and the GOP, not liberals.

Ironic.

(135,425 posts)You have no standards if you can't observe the TOS like we all agree to do when we sign up here.
Apparently, you're doubling down on your "right" to ignore the standards here--let me educate you, without any irony.

Winning elections is important therefore, advocating in favor of Republican nominees or in favor of third-party spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents is never permitted on Democratic Underground. But that does not mean that DU members are required to always be completely supportive of Democrats. During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect. When we are not in the heat of election season, members are permitted to post strong criticism or disappointment with our Democratic elected officials, or to express ambivalence about voting for them. In Democratic primaries, members may support whomever they choose. But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear. For non-presidential contests, election season begins on Labor Day. Everyone here on DU needs to work together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government. If you are bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for our candidates during election season, we'll assume you are rooting for the other side.
You and others here are bashing, trashing, undermining and depressing turnout for Landrieu ON ELECTION DAY. Heckuvajob!!!!
The ToS tells me that I should assume you are rooting for the other side.

(2,063 posts)As a Louisianan, I'm not upset that she will lose. She's been a mediocre senator at best.
It'll been interesting if Cassidy's LSU billing issues will follow him into office. I hope so, but I don't think it will get any traction unless he pisses off someone. Which is a shame because you'd think that fiscal conservatives would care about taxpayer monies being misused.
I'm just grateful that the phone calls and ads will stop. And yes I voted for Landrieu today.
