http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Police-Union-Petitions-for-Mayor-Speaker-Not-to-Attend-Officer-Funerals-285660651.htmlThe city's police union is asking Mayor de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito not to attend funerals of NYPD officers killed in the line of duty, saying the pair doesn't "support and respect" police.
A petition letter, shown below, was sent to the mayor's office Friday, the Patrolman's Benevolent Association confirmed.
The petition, titled Dont Insult My Sacrifice, reads in part:
Due to Mayor de Blasio and Speaker Mark-Viverito's consistent refusal to show police officers the support and respect they deserve, I believe that their attendance at the funeral of a fallen New York City police officer is an insult to that officer's memory and sacrifice.
The PBA has criticized city lawmakers after some council members have come out against a recent grand jury decision not to indict an NYPD officer in the chokehold death of an unarmed man.

(32,003 posts)1. Who attends funerals should be up to the family.
If they want someone there fine, if they don't they should not come.

the funeral should open for the public to attend. I don't know if the city pays for the funerals of officers killed while on duty, but if it does, such funerals should be open to all.
At any rate, the police union has zero say and they should STFU.

But I dont think that means they should be open. They should fulfill the wishes of the family whatever they are as long as the cost is within guidelines. If they dont want the mayor, he shouldnt go. If they want him, I hope he cab make it

It's time to trim the fat, after all.
Start with numbers, work downward to toys and perks.
