I've been away for over a week on a trip at the height of the media's and People's response to this recently released torture report. I have only been able to marginally listen to all the reporting and interviews since it's release. I haven't even listened to the news programs much - but I was able to pick up that former VP Cheney has been interviewed and is adamant that BushCo (he) did the right thing by ordering and supporting torture after 9/11.
Has any one of the interviewers said to him
Well Mr. Cheney - if you feel you are right and innocent of 'war crimes' - then you shouldn't be afraid of putting yourself before the 'world court' (i.e., the Hague) and defending yourself and coming out exonerated so that all this furor around this report will go away.
I don't expect him to say that they didn't do the right thing and that torture is wrong. I expect him to now defend himself and say that it was the right thing to do and that if he had to do it all over again - he would do the same thing. I mean - what else can he say without shooting himself in the foot.
So Mr. Cheney - if you feel you are so right - why don't you put your money where your mouth is?
