Congressman says God will save us from climate change

---this is an example of why I think right-wing religious fundamentalism rather than political outlook underpins the ideology of climate denial.

"A Republican congressman who believes that global warming is not a threat because God has promised not to destroy the Earth has put himself forward as chairman of a powerful committee that deals with energy policy and its effect on the environment."

Mr Shimkus stated; 'The Earth will end only when God declares it's time to be over. Man will not destroy this Earth'

John Shimkus, an evangelical Christian representing Illinois, quoted the Bible in a congressional hearing last year on a proposed "cap and trade" legislation designed to limit carbon emissions.

--what happened to separation of Church and state?

should a congressperson be able to base their vote on the bible, for god's sake?

this and the congress fool that thinks we should rely on God/ Jesus for healthcare.

I come from a fairly religious (devout ) family (I left religion behind many decades ago) .... the general belief in my family is that God/ Jesus gives us tools to use and that it is "our' job to use them to take care of others and the planet. the position of these rwing nut jobs does not even jibe with their reported Christianity.

idiots

voided by God saying he would not use water to destroy the world again.

I would not necessarily read it to absolutely mean all other methods are off the table (quivers) nor does it mean that us stupid motherfuckers are prohibited in some sneak around physics from doing so ourselves.

These people are even nuts by their own espoused standards, adding to, editing, deleting, ignoring consistent and continuous themes, rabidly focusing on things relatively mentioned in passing, bizarre extrapolation, breathtaking downplaying of the entire premise.

Motherfucking Branch Levitican sects and cults. A shame if there has ever been any.

Man can most certainly destroy mankind and the world can go on and on for billions of years longer.

is part of separation of church and state.

As to what he thinks about climate change: The Bible makes it pretty clear that God does not protect us from the consequences of our own actions. God promises that HE would not destroy the earth but He did not say anything about our actions.

These people need to read their Bibles.

After we've killed off ourselves by destroying the environment.

Maybe the next set of prime occupants will take better of it.
