Would the GOP have promoted the NRA, not just because

it is a wedge issue, but also to start a gun war in the USA. Making police terrified of being killed. Stoking a war with the people in crime filled neighbourhoods....thus ensuring that the police unions stay close to the GOP.....even after all the GOPs anti-union policies..... Do you think they think that far ahead (sorry my question mark does not work). Is that part of what is going on

Just because something exists or functions a certain way doesn't mean there was purpose, planning, or a conspiracy

So do democrats. It is called politics. I was not being a Pollyanna. I noticed a change in how police treated protesters when neocons came into power. Walls were created when those lines used to be permeable on both the protesters and the demonstrators sides. Thankfully the demonstrations in the US have been policed by allowing peoples first amendment rights instead of putting up an aggressive wall from the get go. That just provokes protesters. And it worked in Ferguson. And in NYCity for the most part. Where Police role is not authoritarian but enabling of the peoples right to demonstrate. And I really believe this. Cause I have lived it. And I was thinking maybe guns everywhere is just another way for the right to create walls between people and police. And I noticed this week how the GOP noise machine was so desperate to undo the dialogue that was taking place on bias...and put the walls up again as soon as two police were assassinated by that MONSTER. I think there is a much greater connection between the police and the GOP. And that is not me being optimistic in the face of bad stuff, it is me being skeptical that the relationship between the police and the people they police is left unmolested by those who truly hold power or covet more power. And that it has been that way for a long time. And should not guns be part of the equation when we talk about police being scared and people being angry.

The gop promotes the nra so that they push for loose gun regulations that allow us gun manufacturers to sell firearms to foreign nations and groups such as Isis or Ukrainian Rebels that result in wars which then in turn promote us defense corporations and the military industrial complex. THis also encourages the U.S. sheeple to give up rights and encourage the use of thhe nsa and support for police to protect them from foreign entities and civil unrest and drug castles and to vote for republicans.

You were pretty close.

all sorts of policy that enable different kinds of people thrive, even if said policy works at cross purposes often. What is evil to me is government that tries to force people to follow a single script and live a single kind of life that benefits only a narrow group of people. That is not freedom. That is slavery. I am less concerned with Democrats being for the TPP, if they are also for better education and sober but adequate social programs, than GOP trying to make everyone good corporate monkies living a life that benefits mostly corporations. Evil is when everyone has to be of one mind unless the powers that be get very upset they are not adored and adorned and attack.

I got that vibe when Peter King said what he did about Eric Garner after the verdict.

start a gun war in the USA. Making police terrified of being killed. Stoking a war with the people in crime filled neighbourhoods

Can you imagine how many tanks, guns, drones, private security services, communication equipment they can sell if an all out war takes place?

They made billions after 9/11.
