He has been my foster dad for 41 years, a lot of my progressive attitudes were taught to me by him! Hope he makes it through Christmas!

(14,400 posts)the people that work in hospice care are among the best I've ever met, as an atheist I have to say they are truly the only angels I've ever met.
I hope all works out well for you and your family.

(411 posts)Best wishes to your foster dad and hope he has a restful Christmas. Went through hospice with my dad 3 years ago. They are a very good organization and will make your foster dad as comfortable as possible.

(84,005 posts)My dad and BIL were both in hospice care for a short time, we lost them both before Thanksgiving. Hospice workers are wonderful and dedicated to ease the pain at end of life and they do it with respect to the patient. They also offer grief counseling to loved ones left behind.
Hugs and love to you and yours and especially your dad.

(9,126 posts)I will echo the fact that hospice care was wonderful for my mother. They truly are angels on this earth and I owe them so much. Ask when you need help, even if it is just talking with a counselor about what you're going through. I know this is a very scary and tough time and I wish you all the love and peace you need during this time.

(2,570 posts)I just lost my father at hospice on Wednesday. But he lived a good long 81 years and they were all about his comfort at hospice.
They are all about the patients comfort.
Take care and try and visit as often as you can.

(39,215 posts)when my brother was there it was so comforting to know that the care was actually helping him to rest comfortably and relatively pain free. A pastor who was a regular visitor encouraged us to talk to him and even sing to him because they can often hear what we are saying. The staff agreed and they gave us a lot of time with him to do just that.
