Scam warning - ACT Active Network. If you've signed up for a race or event, beware!

We have a local charity run at Thanksgiving and the organization signs people up through Active Advantage. Apparently they embed a recurring membership somewhere in the sign up form.

I just looked at my Dec. credit card statement and there is a 64.95 charge for membership in Active Network - something I did NOT authorize. After a spin around the Google, this is very widespread - so beware! (I disputed the charge with my credit card company and also called the Active network to ensure it is cancelled on their end as well). Now I am off to lodge a complaint with our NC DA office for the scams that this company is hitting people in NC with.

Here is some additional info on this.

Yes, I should have been more careful and read the fine print and popups - but I am usually pretty good at NOT getting suckered, so it couldn't have been very obvious at all!
