In short, not only with that Democrat be crucified and his political career killed by a thousand propaganda outlets, but they'd find a way to toss President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and maybe even Michelle Obama, into the mix, too.

Nowadays Bernie S and Liz W are considered to be and portrayed outlying bomb-throwers on the furthest imaginable fringes of the left. 35 years ago their ideas were a part of the mainstream of the Democratic Party.

7. Communism is just an economic theory.

It certainly doesn't have the same inherent immorality as racism.

You can advocate total wealth redistribution and still be a good person. You can't advocate that people of other races be treated as inferiors and still be a good person.

So it's not even a valid comparison, which makes the fact that associating with Communism would have worse consequences for a political figure than associating with skinheads and Klansmen that much more outrageous.

The point is that racism is morally wrong, whereas communism is just an economic theory, and yet conservatives would find it much worse if a Democrat talked at a communist gathering.
