Another Baby Treated For Herpes After A Snip-N-Suck Circumcision

This is the fourth reported case this year and the 17th case since 2000—two infants have died from the virus, and two have suffered serious brain damage.

The NYC Department of Health says that the infant was born in November, and presented with lesions on his penis soon after his circumcision. A lab positively identified the herpes virus, and the Health Department says the symptoms, location and timing “are consistent” with the snip-'n-suck ritual. The department confirmed the case today, and a source tells us the infant is out of immediate danger and has been released from the hospital.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the snip-'n-suck penis mutilation is performed 3,600 times a year in New York city.

Hey, wait. I haven't seen any Olive Garden or breast feeding threads. Hmm....that's unusual, for DU.

For the record, if I had a baby boy, I wouldn't circumcise him. Let him make the choice later if he wants it. If he was born with it and I think pretty much all little boys are born with it, Nature probably meant for it to be there. I just have this bad feeling about the thought of cutting off parts of any child I ever have.

Others feel differently, my mother and my aunt included. It would be an uphill fight to not cut parts off my kid if I had one. I don't know why so many who are for circumcision want to enforce it on those of us who'd rather leave it up to the boy when he gets old enough to know what it even is and whether he wants to give up part of his skin. I'd still teach the kid about what the health officials say about STDs and all. He would have all the facts. He would just make the decision himself instead of me having parts cut off of him. Simple as that, it seems, to me.

Really? I'd like to see even ONE post that suggests anyone feels that way. OTOH I see plenty that want to force others to NOT have the right to decide what is best for their child (even when experts give plenty of reasons for it.)

I didn't say anything about on DU for that sentence. I don't care if others decide to do it. I just would not want to do it. My family told me when I was younger, if I had a boy, he WOULD be circumcised whether I wanted it done or not. I had no choice. My mother has no grandchildren now because of it to.

especially if I wouldn't even be allowed to NOT cut them. I know my mother though. She has done things through the year. Even when I became an adult, if she wanted it to happen, against my wishes, it would happen. She knows how to work the doctors in this town and knows people who aren't doctors who do things for her too. She knows how to manipulate any situation. So, I just said never mind. I'd rather not have kids than to have to constantly fight her on every part of raising the kid. I think she would do that too.
