I don't think he ever flew solo in a F-102 I think he probably logged some hours in a TF-102 a 2 seat trainer. Both the 102 and the 106 were extremely high performance interceptors that requires skill and nerve to fly; I don't think he had either.

He is the only pilot I ever knew of that quit flying without a fight.

His service in the National Guard, patrolling our skies over the Gulf of Mexico-or wherever-, kept us safe and secure from those godless Commies.

It has bothered me for years that he and his family used their pull to keep him out of the draft and another went to Viet Nam in his place. I've always wondered what happened to the person who was sent with a rifle to fight in that shitty war while George flew those trainer jets and even apparently failed in that.
