(110,159 posts)the other, we werent sure yet and hadnt properly christianed SB. it started moving a little tonight. but it wasnt us yet.
it was a snarky name that we had to suck up and be. not who we are.
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)... Anyway, I agree. SB was not a great name. Maybe it would have worn in eventually, but I think GD works better.

(8,480 posts)"Sb" was/is so pejorative.

(1,932 posts)I watch it happen. There's one just now locked on another subject that would be fine in the old GD.
I loved the 80% to 20% politics/events mix.
Now who is going to go to the health forum to look for a food drive?
Who is going to the science forum to see those events.
They will be put into their cubbihole to die, imo.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)kinds of manners. to hear so many perspectives from so many people is what made it fun. i could tell a story of what i experienced and others would share what they think or how they saw it. where do we go to post those? lounge? all good people, but they dont often want serious, hence the lounge. serious conversation that is not political.
i hear ya
but shhhh, i say quietly. they have occasionally put the hammer down on what is posted on du only to have it loosened up again. we will see.

(68,202 posts)just stopping it. But looky here!

(28,784 posts)ppl didn't like the name? I pretty much just go with the flow as far as these things go.
MilesColtrane
(18,678 posts)They not only didn't like it.
Many completely freaked out.
RainDog
(28,784 posts)I know... I was joking. I saw that a lot of people didn't like the name. I guess I should've put *blink, blink* after that sentence - as in... really?
I like the name "general discussion" better too. It's nicer.
but I would never bother to say anything about it.
I guess that's why I've been here as long as I have. I also recognize that my personal quarrels with someone are my own here. I realize I may say things in a moment of anger and regret those words, and others may too - or they may not - but in either case, holding grudges, trying to gang up on others, not letting go of perceived insults... I guess those are all things I save for my private life, not my online one. LOLOL.
ultimately the people who participate on DU in every capacity, have brought value to my life. So, I try to go with the flow.

(68,202 posts)I was wondering where to post my Friday AFternoon Challenge and I even went to ATA in the DU2 with a question about my placement of it in DU3.
Oh, I'm so glad! This helps a lot! I hope they will let me post my Challenge there!
I was thinking that maybe I shouldn't do the Challenge anymore....

(21,925 posts)It doesn't seem like DU without the posts inside each thread filling up the screen all the way across. I don't mind the menu but I don't see the need for it inside a thread.

(2,760 posts)I went in on the trial run last week and got so depressed I couldn't stay too long. With time I hope I will adjust, but I'm old and not as computer savvy as some of you. When the screen I am looking at is so radically different I simply freeze up. Hope I can acclimate eventually, as I am out of the country and DU is my main source of up-to-date news.

(12,233 posts)on the Home Page or as top buttons, a fast click to the "most discussed" and the "most Recommended". Its hard to find those category buttons. I have to click around several times to find the most Rec'd or look in on a "hot topic". Normally, the important items of the day in the news or what's on the radar are on the most rec'd page or are hotly discussed topics. It always takes me a few clicks to find those buttons so I can check it out now. I still don't know which forums allow for the quick buttons for most rec'd. Anyone else miss that> I wish they were at the top like Home, Latest Threads, Forums... etc.
I'm assuming things will get tweaked in time to make DU3 more user friendly. If you have never been on DU at all, then it would be confusing to know where to go and what are helpful items that keeps the community thriving and interactive... I would say that the old "Greatest Page", now "Most Rec'd" is one of the best items about DU, especially, if someone is new to DU. What is rec'd and most discussed is a good introduction to people and to some of the best written editorials by members or what makes people tick or becomes a hot button issue on DU.
Also, I am looking forward to everyone figuring out how to get into their profile page and setting up their avatars and re-setting their signature quotes... Those are as unique as the community in general.
