1. What is the significance of titling this "...right before Christmas"?

If you think he was entitled to take defensive action, would it be negated by the fact that it was Christmas?

If you think he wasn't entitled to take defensive action, would your decision be any different if it was earlier or later than Christmas?

The story indicates that a burglary was in progress and that a struggle broke out. Since neither of us know any additional details, I'm going to reserve judgement, and certainly not be affected by the fact that it was "before Christmas".

3. I'm not suggesting anything about the pastor's "Entitlement" to take defensive action.

I thought the placement of the Christian Pastor with a gun right before Christmas and him killing a child (with no indication of the child being armed) pretty amazing and just wanted to share the story. I think you are right to reserve judgment including of my choice to point out the date, even though the story is just up on the website I link and it is now after the start of the new year.

2. The woman who raised me was murdered on a sunny Summer's day by a 14 year old. . .

he dragged her from her car, pistol-whipped her savagely, then put two slugs through her left eye.

Unless different intel comes to light, I won't be getting worked up over a burglar killed in a struggle inside another person's home.

But don't you find it odd the Pastor didn't just call the police and wait outside until they showed up?

7. Did the Pastor know the burglar was in the house before he entered?

Or did he walk in on a burglary?

13. I no longer get "worked up" at something that happened over 40 years ago . . .

I explained a personal situation to illustrate that a 14 year old is quite capable of savage murder.

The homeowner "came home and interrupted the burglary while it was still in progress."

I'm certain, had she been given the opportunity, the woman who raised me would have preferred to move to the sidewalk and quietly wait for the police to arrive and apprehend her young assailant before he could murder her. But life (and death) doesn't always provide such clean denouements; it is too often quick and ugly.

So to repeat: "Unless different intel comes to light, I won't be getting worked up over a burglar killed in a struggle inside another person's home." Doesn't matter what age the perp is or what career the homeowner has.

Got any information you can share that would sway my opinion? Or would you like to take a stab again at some more condescending remarks?

Pardon me if you already saw the story. Stumbled upon it because of another post linking me to the Oklahoma website.

Found 3 folks (so far) that find this post disturbing for some reason. You never know with the DU, that's for sure.

I'm sorry for the kid, but I don't blame the pastor for shooting a home invader.

6. I'm sorry, but I don't see the relevence of it being before Christmas, on Christmas Day

or after Christmas. The Pastor was attacked in his own home by a burglar, he was fully justified in defending himself in his own home.

INSIDE HIS OWN HOME against a young criminal is quite as flippant about this as you.

Your sarcasm attempt = fail.

You'll pardon me if I don't see the need to question intruders about their age, mental disposition, and intent.

I guess "Burglar burglarizes home right before Christmas" doesn't have the same ring to it.
