Rahm Emanuel Hits 50 Percent in Poll (could avoid runoff)

Emanuel's numbers have gone up and there is a chance he may be able to avoid a runoff election . there will still be debates so there is still a chance for things to change .

<Rahm Emanuel has strengthened his political backing as his television ads flood the airwaves, and the mayor now has about what he needs to win in February without facing a runoff election, according to his latest poll.

The survey released this evening by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research shows Emanuel getting support from 50 percent of likely voters. That's the magic number he needs to win outright on Feb. 24, and the percentage could rise because the poll found 9 percent of voters still undecided.

Among whites, Emanuel led with 56 percent to 20 percent for Garcia and 14 percent for Fioretti. Among blacks, the figures were 51 percent, 19 percent and 4 percent, respectively.

The TV ads also appear to have done some good for Emanuel's overall approval rating. It's now 50 percent, up six points since mid December, according to Washington, D.C.-based Greenberg Quinlan Rosner.>
