I've got two more slots if any can think of more. I think I pretty much covered it.

(14,733 posts)Actually I think I'd vote for that last one. There are specific subsets of folks who will fight any given battle, but given that this is a political site supposedly tied to the fortunes of the Democratic Party, the greatest fights are going to be ABOUT the Democratic Party, it's representatives, and their actual closeness or lack thereof to Democratic ideals and principles.

(45,251 posts)Poll answers will reflect perceptions, accurate or not, pet peeves, and/or agendas, not necessarily the factually correct answer to your question.
You asked a question about numbers, not interpretation of poetry. There is an answer to this question that can be determined with some research and a bit of counting. (How much research depends on the time span you want to know about.)
There is a corollary to the question, that is only slightly more subjective, namely, what causes the biggest flame wars on DU. The answer to that can also be determined with some research and a bit of counting, plus a soupçon of judgment calls.

(29,322 posts)Because if you aren't making your case like a Republican (getting things, the analytical approach, reason, logic) they react to you like you're the dumbass.
It reminds of the Ebola threads which thankfully the Midterm elections killed that ridiculous nonsense and hardly even seen an Ebola thread, much less an unscientific fear based arguments for proposals such as charging Ebola victims for a crime because they went to a bowling alley.

(20,277 posts)I don't see any pittbull wars because I dumped it into my key word trash. Gun wars belong in the gungeon. The spiderwoman comic and SI cover created epic flame wars.

(34,845 posts)Because OWS and Snowden/Greenwald are by far the most divisive subjects, IMO.

(41,692 posts)I replaced Olive Garden with Greenwald, Snowden.

(20,317 posts)The anti-Greenwald brigade is pretty small. They're just incredibly prolific and antagonistic.

(53,339 posts)Even though it was never relegated to a -geon, Skinner at one point banned all chicken threads because of it.

(63,912 posts)Funny that Skinner had to ban all chicken threads for a while...poor Skinner, here he goes and creates a political website with high hopes and intentions and ends up with....a chicken?

(50,566 posts)Some of those posters got too cocky, and Skinner didn't want them to egg each other on anymore. He didn't want to just wing it, so he brooded about it and realized he was stewed. Now he considers his authoritative shutdown of those threads as a feather in his cap.

(21,020 posts)have probably caused bigger flamewars than what I voted for, but not on an as-frequent basis.
Which is why I went with "Feminist/MRA".
They seem to be moderately large, yet way more frequent than some of the larger volume flamewars. So that makes them bigger, IMO.
