Millionaire Renounces US Citizenship To Dodge Taxes, Whines When He Can’t Come Back

Roger Ver is your typical free-loading libertarian millionaire: Loved all the perks he got from living in the United States, didn’t think he should pay for them. In fact, he was so incensed at the idea of having to pay taxes on his millions – that he totally earned in a complete vacuum having nothing to do with the infrastructure created by the tyrannical government – that in 2014, he renounced his citizenship and ran off to live in St. Kitts, a tropical island with almost no taxes.

Except now he’s upset because the US won’t let him back in:

Ver complains that the decision has forced him to miss speaking appointments at conferences and that the US embassy in Barbados refused to even consider the evidence for his application.

The official reasoning behind Ver’s rejection is that he doesn’t have sufficient “ties” to his country of residency in the Caribbean and has not demonstrated he has “the ties that will compel [him] to return to your home country after your travel to the United States,” according to a picture he tweeted of a letter that appears to be from the embassy.

In short, US officials are worried that Ver might choose to stay in his native country illegally.

Ver is known as “Bitcoin Jesus” because he fetishsizes the cryptocurrency that he’s hoping will overthrow the evil tyrannical government. Of course, like all libertarians, Ver doesn’t really care what happens to all the people not already rolling in bitcoins because he got his, so to the hell with them. The most annoying part of his hypocrisy? Ver worships a virtual currency that literally only exists because the United States government he loathes so much spent millions of taxpayer dollars to develop the internet that Bitcoin cannot exist without. What a complete and utter tosser.

Tue Jan 13, 2015, 12:07 PM
Jan 2015

Except for a few other spoiled brat 'libertarian' types ... no American will have the slightest sympathy for Roger Ver.

Let's hope the "tyrants" in government never let him back into the United States ... we've got enough freeloading millionaires/billionaires getting rich off of the nation's infrastructure that all of us lowly working people built and paid for.

This Ayn Rand style of American 'libertarianism' is quite clearly little more than economic and political narcissism; behavior that wallows in the juvenile and tries to give that kind of selfishness the patina of credibility through the concoction of the 'philosophy' of Objectivism.

Wed Jan 14, 2015, 02:06 AM

I moved to Germany to live with my wife (she's German) full time and travel less. German taxes are higher than US taxes, and although all my income is in the USA, it's all taxed in Germany except for certain income which must be taxed in the US, and is therefore exempt from taxation in Germany under the USA-Germany double taxation treaty. That was all hashed out between US and German accountants and the German version of the IRS years ago. Then the Germans disregarded all their agreements and now want to tax me on the income they said was exempt, and on which I already paid US taxes, which would put it somewhere around the 96% bracket. The German accountants were furious when they saw it, as their own authorities did a 180° on what they had ruled previously, and they are appealing, but it is time-consuming grief (and expensive to me), and I could still lose (some of them think it's 1938 or something).

Be honest and declare everything, and they punish you for it if you're an easy target. Be GE or Exxon and hide everything in Ireland and Luxembourg, and they'll kiss your hand for staying in their swankest hotels and taking the minister of finance out to the fanciest restaurant in town.

If he's a millionaire that makes him one of the Privileged Class and as such
he thinks he is entitled to anything at all simply because he wants it.

When you take Libertarian ideals to their logical conclusions, you will often find yourself in positions similar to the one Ver finds himself in now.

This is one of my favorite games to play with Libertarians. I call it "Life in Libertaria."

So, my Libertarian neighbor was complaining that the big, mean, old government tries to control him and tell him what he can and can't do in his "castle" and of course, government should not have that "right."

He asked me why he couldn't, say, open a bar in his home (a house in a normal, residential, suburban neighborhood).

So, I asked him questions about his plan: How would his customers get there if not on a public road? Helicopter, maybe? Where would he get his electricity if not from a public utility service? A gasoline generator? Would he serve my 13 year old alcohol? Food? What if my 13 year old got sick from his alcohol or contaminated food? What would be my recourse?

He said he liked the idea of a gas generator because he hates his neighbor and would like to blow exhaust on her property. He said he hates his neighbor because she doesn't keep her house up and her poorly conditioned house devalues his property. I asked him why he was concerned with his neighbor and her property upkeep when that is her "castle" and "in Libertaria" she would have the right to keep it in any way she saw fit.

Oddly, he is not speaking to me anymore.

LOL!
