The White House can not say it, so we will have to for them.

Obama did not go to Paris or send anyone but the American Ambassador to France ......because he did not want to stand shoulder to shoulder, mug to mug, cheek to cheek with the biggest gathering of hypocrites in world history.....that was even before it turned into an awkward and comedic phot-op meant for each dear leaders's own nations' domestic consumption by media they totally control.

But I could be wrong...maybe it was all a grave error worthy of the greatest moral outrage over America's tepid commitment to fight terrorism, protect free speech and the purpose was clearly to dishonour America's centuries old rapport with France...yeah, could be that.....sometimes logic and reason is so worthless in the face of media propaganda relentlessly pursued.

Take note of how the Western leaders push their way to the front while the Super Hypocrites shuffle off to the middle and rear. Not to worry, their media will put them front and Center as heroes of free speech.

Just noticed that Merckel is rather anxiously looking around to see if Bush sneaked his way in and tries to goose her again.

Not sure American exceptionalism, as worded here, is going to go over well as the reason. NCTraveler Jan 2015 #1

Seems it is just as big of a topic here as it is everywhere else in the US. Even to the point of people making excuses. It is a non-story that will be short lived. Only those in far right circles will still be talking about this in a couple of days.
