30,000 sign up on Florida's free "Do Not Call" list in just 24 hours

Floridians want their peace and quiet -- for free.

Some 30,000 signed up for Florida's new free "Do Not Call" list in just 24 hours after state workers sent out a press release Monday that a new law made the registry free, said Amy Topol, assistant director of the state's Division of Consumer Services.

That was a 38 percent jump in just one day: The list had only 80,000 before the notice of the free service went out, Topol said.

By Wednesday morning, another 20,000 had signed up, she said.

I've been on the NDNCR for years and it works very well. Don't understand the duplication of effort by the State of Fl, except up to now they were charging for the service.
