Gay marriage ruling

If the SCOTUS rules against state bans (like Im leaning towards them doing) do you think the teabaggers will make a hard push for a federal amendment banning same sex marriage?

If they try for an amendment, it will fail. It wouldn't surprise me if they threaten it though uppityperson Jan 2015 #1

I think that the pendulum has swung and were past the point of regression on that. After the DOMA ruling, it went quickly.

At least I hope

But yes I agree there is not enough support for a national ban.

You think at this point the right wing can count on 38 states? I find it highly unlikely.

(And that's assuming such an amendment actually gets out of Congress.)

About the best they could hope for would be some kind of amendment that leaves the issue up to each state to decide.

A ban at the federal level is out of the question.

2/3 of both the house and senate would need to approve, followed by 75% of the state legislatures.

There have been marriages for a number of years, and the sky hasn't fallen. That is, in large part, why there has been such a sea change. If it is not already too late to gain approval by 75% of the state legislatures, it will be after 100% of the states have had the opportunity to experience same gender marriage for themselves for any significant period of time.
