Is it OK to mock Scientology and those who believe such nonsense?

Religion is full of bad ideas. Some of them are down right funny. Progressives should embrace anything that weakens nonsense like religion, all religion.

Those guys don't mess around. They will sue you, stalk you, and spy on you with private detectives.

But seriously, go for it!

So, some will say that Scientology is definitely made up horseshit. A few less will discredit Mormonism outright. A few less will discredit ______ outright. And so on and so on until we get to widely held and acceptable religious nonsense that was all made up by someone to serve a purpose for themselves.

It's a slippery slope because it's all made up nonsense.

As a Mormon I never enjoy it, but it happens often enough.

Then again after this last couple of weeks, seems like maybe DU is turning hostile towards believers of any stripe.

I've become against all religions as unnecessary and outdated. I understand using it to teach morals and fill in the holes where science is lacking, but nowadays it is being used more as a tool of hate and control. I've no use for it. I also have no use for my hate-filled, god-loving family members who hate many people based on groups that they belong too. I've nothing against you and I won't call you stupid for having faith, as it's a personal choice and a (relatively) free country.

If someone doesn't want to read/participate in them, they can simply ignore them.

I don't want to dive into the religion forum but if an OP catches my eye in GD, I may click and participate.

But the rules are clear on that - i suspect because they create a lot of fire and anger to no great effect - same as with Israeli/Palestine and Gun Control.

For example talking about the Charles Hebdo attacks; hard to do that without talking about Islam and Religion. I think the moderators are taking a hands off approach for now even for posts that have nothing at all to do with the Charles Hebdo attacks.

And they're a religion of, by, and for the wealthy elite. And let's not forget all the shady shit that they do to their non contributing members and the overseas slave labor camps. So yeah I say mock away.

Those that believe have every right to do so.

The right to freedom of religion is not the right to be free from criticism, free from disbelief, free from ridicule.

That entire episode needlessly provoked Scientologists. It was deliberately created to do all the things they say you aren't allowed to do in order to shine a little on how stupid it all is.

But with Scientology - it's all good apparently.
