Happy Birthday Roe vs. Wade

The Group Behind America's Biggest Anti-Abortion March Now Says Birth Control Causes Abortions

Will the insanity ever stop? I know the stupidity won't.

Each year on January 22—the anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling in Roe v. Wade—the March for Life draws thousands of protesters to Washington, DC, for what organizers bill as "world's largest anti-abortion event." But this year, there's an added wrinkle: Organizers of the march have spent the past six months arguing that birth control pills are a form of abortion.

March for Life Education and Defense Fund, the nonprofit that organizes the annual protest, identified oral birth control as a form of abortion in a lawsuit filed in July. With the suit, which is ongoing, March for Life is fighting for an exemption from the Affordable Care Act mandate that all private employers provide contraception coverage.

March for Life argues that covering drugs or medical devices that cause abortions would violate its founding principles. And it places hormonal birth control, which includes things like oral contraception and vaginal rings, squarely within that category. In its lawsuit, the group refers to these as "abortifacients," a characterization with which most physicians strongly disagree.

well aware. How we pushed back or not is important too.

Placing Democrats on defense was a shrewd move, we need to make sure they
do not continue to shame women away from their legal choices. The entire
late term abortion controversy was disgraceful with the exception of a few
brave Democratic senators at the time.

Also, one of the most infuriating things more recent was what I did not hear, a call out
to Brownback at the time he was running for POTUS. He made clear under no circumstances
he supported abortion even when the life of the mother was at risk. Evidently, leaving
a family without their mother is a good thing and a decision the state should make.

I don't recall hearing any Dems going after him. Think about what he is saying and that goes
for the Pope too. You should die and leave possibly children you already have to be orphans.

That is a pro life stance?? That is a man who hates women and children..call them out.
It's not a small thing to dismiss people like him as extreme, he is a governor of an entire
state.

He has since the 2008 run, moved away from that position yet the control freak has constructed
other arbitrary obstacles.

A birds eye view of the alleged pro-lifers..the replies are repugnant.

Toward the end of the interview, Hannity asked Brownback if he believed there should be any legal exceptions for abortion such as rape, incest, or saving the life of the mother. Brownback clearly stated that there should be absolutely no legal exceptions for abortion. He admitted that such a situation would be tragic but also said that "it's not the baby's fault."

to represent fetuses. They don't even have to win a case. Just make sure it doesn't end for a few months.

And our lovely Republican Congress is going to vote on a bill soon, too. Wasted no time. Would have voted already, except Republican women in Congress objected to something.

Sigh.

Nice to see you again, though, miss smartypants.

It's been proven time and time again.

Also they are killing women who cannot get health care, not to mention the healthcare workers they have gunned down or blown up.

Women with control of their bodies are viable members of the economic chain. Just ask Melinda Gates. This is not an endorsement of her but she makes this point repeatedly. Studies in economics back her up.

"inherent right" of privacy in the Constitution and made access to contraception something the states could no longer prohibit. (I think Griswold may have also formed a precedent upon which Roe was decided, but might be mistaken on that.) One can thus view the campaign to reverse Griswold as yet another sordid attempt to revive states' rights (at the expense of federally-guaranteed Constitutional rights).

Please note that, even should Roe or even Griswold be overturned, wealthy women will still have full access to reproductive freedom, exactly as they did before Roe and Griswold, when they could simply fly to Europe or other jurisidictions to pay for legal (and safe) abortions. I suppose the loonier of the 'Forced Birth' brigade might seek to criminalize even the wealthy traveling abroad in search of abortions but since when have the wealthy ever been denied anything they really wanted and for which they were willing to pay?

Upholding Roe v. Wade is one reason I continue to hold my nose on occasion to vote Democratic.
