Do it. Cheat. Cheating is ok.
And, if you don't cheat, you're a LOSER.
That is the message our culture sends in sports AND in politics.
Amiright?

(30,439 posts)Brady was saying he likes his balls exactly at 12.5 PSI. He says they're perfect when inflated to 12.5.
But then he says he couldn't tell that they were 2 PSI less during the game.
How is that possible? He's so particular about his balls, but he couldn't tell they were inflated to 10.5 PSI?
I hope Seattle destroys these guys.

Seahawks' lead in PED bans under Carroll
The Seattle Seahawks lead the NFL in suspensions for performance-enhancing drugs since Pete Carroll became coach in 2010, research by ESPN Stats & Information shows.
Defensive end Bruce Irvin's four-game suspension, announced Friday, was the fifth during that span, according to research ESPN's Steve Martinez conducted using STATS PASS.

Why hasn't Brady gone to the League to talk to them? Why wait for the League to come to him? And what are they waiting for anyway?

(93,615 posts)so why is this whole thing seen as being an advantage to one team ?
Each team provides their own balls.

(15,812 posts)so he prefers a highly inflated ball, whereas Patriots QB
Tom Brady has tiny hands and likes the football as small
as he can get it.

(57,757 posts)Did you just insult Tom Brady's manhood?
A-Schwarzenegger
(15,812 posts)The problem is that his small hand is his throwing hand, hence
disinflated football.

And here's Colt QB Andrew Luck's hand...

brewens
(15,359 posts)could throw a football really well. I did have kind of just average sized hands though. Just that little bit softer ball would have been an advantage. Just like how I could dunk a volley ball one handed but not a full sized basketball. I could out pass our QB's both my junior and senior years but with our power I and old school T formation attack, we didn't throw all that much. It would have been really stupid to play me at QB just because I could hit a reciever a little farther downfield.
Give Brady a little better grip and also know you can't hit a really long FG attempt when your opponent doesn't? So it didn't come down to that to decide the game, but no one knew that going in. You can't now kick the Pats out and let the Colts play because of that. You'd screw all the Pats fans. It won't matter anyway because the Seahawks will tear them out a new asshole! GO Seahawks!

(7,906 posts)Each team brings 12 balls, and many times 12 alternate balls. All balls are inspected by the officials. And they play with their own balls. I'm being silly with my wording on purpose, because Bravenak and Uppity like this humor, and they crack me up
But it's truthful, and I hope it makes sense to you.

MADem
(135,425 posts)why can't they handle them before the game and just top 'em off as needed?
I mean, really--major league baseball doesn't let each team bring in their own vaseline smeared baseballs--the ump checks the ball before it goes into play.
I think the NFL has a responsibility to adhere to standards in this case. We're not talking something that is truly "personal equipment" -- it's a "game ball." People from both sides will be fondling the thing (if they get their way, anyway) ...it makes sense for the NFL to have a hand in maintaining standards.
former9thward
(33,424 posts)They check the balls two hours before the game and then give them to both of the teams' ball runners.
MADem
(135,425 posts)I think this is much ado about nothing--it's a Rovian technique. Smear someone, put them on the defensive, get the torch-and-pitchfork crowd after them, and convict them without evidence. Move over Don Siegelman, you've got a cellmate named Brady!

(135,425 posts)And I've always preferred it when the bounty could be shared--I like seeing different teams win, and I know the Patriots have been a powerhouse. Even though I am from New England, I don't mind when other teams win the Superbowl...however, I get the sense that this scandal is "scripted" to create drama, that it's a fake, that it isn't real.
For that reason, where I'd normally not really give-a-shit, I hope the Patriots are juggernauts and kick some serious ass.

And they very well could have been doing it for years.

(11,453 posts)with traps, counters, etc., and would have won the game with any type of football used in that game. Also, the Pats defense totally shut down the Colts, both running and passing. A slightly deflated football would have had little effect either way. The game was won by the guys up front that dominated the Colts on both sides of the ball.
I wanted the Colts vs the Packers in the Super Bowl, so both of the teams I was pulling for lost. That being said, the Pats are a much better team than the Colts. The Pack just flat out chocked with their second half insane and stupid strategy.
brush
(61,033 posts)if he were using the harder, regulation ball?
Luck overthrew several receivers with the hard ball.
In the first half the game was still close. A pick six by the Colts on an overthrow would have completely changed the dynamics of the game so you can't say that the softer, easier-to-throw ball had no effect.
And the balls were not slightly delfated, they were deflated by a full 2psi 11 of the 12 Patriot balls.
The Colts balls were all at the correct psi.
So what's up with that Pat fans?
Your boys were up to their dirty tricks again (spygate, uneligible receivergate, tuck rulegate, and now deflategate.)
Stop with the cheating Patriots.

(1,423 posts)You cannot cheat fate. Russell Wilson and the Seahawks are about to do what's never been done. A rookie quarterback winning 2 Super Bowls in his first three years. Wilson will surpass Brady and become the greatest quarterback who ever lived.

(1,423 posts)He has had the most stellar career of any QB starting from his rookie year. Just look at those numbers: 43 wins and 12 losses since he has been a starter, which was on his first day. He hasn't been injured either.
I guess he's not that popular because he's short and black.

(4,656 posts)... that whether they need to or not doesn't matter. I agree they would have won the game anyway. But if I commit election fraud, it doesn't matter if it turns out I would have won even if I hadn't done so. If I cheated on an exam, it doesn't matter that I knew the subject well enough to have passed even if I didn't cheat. When Brady had the balls deflated he did so because he thought he needed to. His guilt and culpability are unaffected by anything that happens after that.
