Can I Ask The Brave Among Us To Answer A Question ???

Why Hillary ???

There are some who still think she got screwed in 2008, and it's her turn.

There are some who think she's a lock for a win in 2016, and that's enough.

There are some that want to see the first female President of the U.S., and that's enough.

There are many that think she's misunderstood, and will be a female model of current liberalism.

There are a multitude of reasons... So no polls here.

Just a question: What's YOUR reason ???

example, a hypothetical general election contest between Ms. Clinton and Ms. Palin. I think the logic behind my statement is almost self evident, is it not? It gets a bit trickier when one puts Ms. Clinton up against a weasel like Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney. Even there, though, I would argue that the protection of Roe v. Wade merits a nod in Ms. Clinton's direction.

I do not support Ms. Clinton and will not vote for her in the CA primary. But I simply cannot conceive of any Republican (save perhaps Jon Huntsman and I don't know too much about him) who is remotely less evil than Hillary. Today's Republican Party and its members exemplify and personify the concept of the 'banality of evil.' Adults must vote against that.

In this world the Democrat is always better than the alternative.

Obama is an overwhelmingly competent centrist. I enthusiastically voted for him twice even though I am a radical leftist, progressive, and environmentalist.

Better to vote for someone who can do the job (being President is difficult) than a someone else's hand-up-the-President's-butt-making-his-lips-move like a Reagan or George W. Bush.

Voting for the lesser of evils keeps moving us further into evil. We are now at a point where half of American schoolchildren live in poverty, and a few billionaires own half of the wealth of the planet.

We keep teaching corporate thieves that all they have to do to continue their agenda is play this "lesser of two evils" scam on us. We have taught corporate Democrats that they can enact literally a fascist agenda and still get our votes. We have to unteach them that.

It's our only hope at this point, because we're going down either way.

And no, not gonna argue about this. I have heard the Supreme Court arguments, and I find them to be bullshit. On what planet can we trust that a Third Way predator will protect the Supreme Court, when the current Third Way administration is aggressively dismantling our Bill of Rights and making a mockery of what a "Justice Department" is supposed to be?

It's a tactic of Third Way propaganda to leap ahead and try to argue from the point at which Hillary is already the nominee. I refuse to go there. There is nothing more important right now than STOPPING her or any other corporate predator in a Democrat suit from being shoved down our throats as our party's nominee. Because if the Third Way can do that, they have ensured that the predatory agenda continues no matter who is elected.

voting for the lesser of two evils. IOW, the objective of all progressive-minded folk should be to prevent the consolidation of a one-party state under the control of the fascists. If that means one must cast one's ballot for a member of the bourgeoisie like Hillary, so be it. Better her than a one-party fascist state.

FWIW, I plan to support and vote for Bernie Sanders if he changes his party registration to Democratic to enter the lists. (And as far as I'm concerned, Sanders isn't sufficiently far enough left to suit my tastes! The German Communist Party and Social Democrat Party refused to work together with one another to oppose Hitler. (In fact, the German Communist Party welcomed Hitler's ascent to power as an 'ice-breaker' that would herald the proletarian revolution.) We've seen what a failure to oppose the consolidation of a one-party fascist state has done in the past and, imo, we must do everything in our power to prevent it from happening ever again.

Do you think I'm over-exaggerating or engaging in hyperbole when I call today's Republican Party 'fascist'?

On an unrelated note, I'm blown away at all the work you've done compiling the catalogue of links. But is there a purpose to presenting them here? I'm assuming there is and I'm just a bit slow on the uptake tonight.

a slow death by a thousand paper cuts under Hillary whose economic policies are little different for the Republicans, who works actively for the corporations, was an architect to TPP ...

Or a quick one by the Republican's family values version equivalent of Caligula, who might disrupt the system quickly enough for people to rise up and replace the current system with something else. Look at what Brownback is doing to Kansas as an example (Brownback just hasn't gone far enough yet, just a matter of time there)

Whatever system it might be Reformed Capitalism, Despotism, Socialism, Communism. At 50% poverty for children anything is better than the corrupt, non-representative system we have now.

I'll take the quick one.

is that she has spent much of her political life advocating for women and she understands the right wing hate machine. Hillary is way too much of a hawk and too close to corporate interests but I do value her efforts to help women worldwide. I've seen no other politician running for President who pushes these issues as much. I also doubt she will make the same mistake as Obama and think the Republicans are not out to hurt her.

...she is infinitely preferable to any conceivable Republican candidate. She is probably the most politically experienced woman in the US. She's been a lawyer, Senator, Secretary of State, traveled extensively, and of course been First Lady, which gives her a perspective no other President has shared. If she is a "corporatist", then it's up to us to get her to see reason--and reality--in the White House, and I suspect, or at least hope, that she would expect that of us. And she brings her husband with her as First Gentleman, and he has some little experience himself... And I think, too, having an older woman in the White House would be a good thing for the country. I'd be more than content with Hillary as President.

Durring the primary I will compare what poicies and programs she proposes against the other candidates. I will also watch the regular polls in head to head matchups against Republicans. I will choose the candidate that I think has the best chance to kick Republican Ass. On small mark in her favor is that she is a woman. I think men have had ample chance to screw everything up and it is time take another step to equal opportunity. But that is not a deciding factor.

Just before the primary I could give you reasons why I choose a candidate, but not until then.

It matters which party is in charge.

Second, as I said elsewhere, Bill Clinton was easily the best President in my lifetime (caveat: Barack Obama cant be fully judged until a few years after he leaves office, IMO -- so far I largely approve of what he's done), and I think she'll use Bill's abilities to her advantage.

Third, she's been SecState, Senator, and a more than passing participant in the operations of the White House and the Arkansas governors mansion. Nobody on either side has that résumé.

Fourth, I don't see anybody else on the Democratic side of the political equation at this time who can win over the independent middle. To be sure, when you get out of Christie/Bush/Romney, the Republicans have identical issues with folks like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. Elizabeth Warren is a very good Senator, but in a national election she'll be beaten over the head with the Native American thing; shown up for having no meaningful foreign policy experience; and pressed on why she had a change of heart after being a Republican in the 1990s. Bernie Sanders has indicated himself to be a democratic socialist, and that will be a deal breaker for about 2/3 of the country. Martin O'Malley should go take Barbara Mikulski's seat in the Senate.

Fifth, the IWR vote is not a deal-breaker for me. I think, as the junior senator from NY, politically she had no choice. Schumer voted for it as well, In any event, I blame the Iraq War squarely on Bush/Cheney, who falsified and exaggerated intelligence to lead us into war.

That one does have me wondering. Another WTF from that happened in... Kennebunkport, July 30, 1983: Bill Clinton, George Bush & George Wallace

Wallace and his third wife, the former Lisa Taylor, meet with Vice President George Bush and Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton at a lobster bake at Bush's residence at Kennebunkport, Maine, July 30, 1983. The third Mrs. Wallace, whom the governor married in 1981, was 30 years his junior and half of a country-western singing duo, Mona and Lisa, who had performed during his campaign in 1968.

It was difficult to vote for her in my primary in 08 because of her iraq vote. I thought the right person won the primary fair and square and had no problem voting for Obama in 08 and 12.
I think hillary has a unique experience of being in th wh during 2 presidential terms. I think she's pretty savvy and knows how to weather rightwing loon storms.
The way I decide on who to vote for is not so much by the known issues but how they handle the unexpected. Look at 9/11 and Katrina for bush. I think hillary will be like obama and be thoughtful and measured in her response to any crisis.

Really? I'm sorry, but that's the kind of thing that has kept women out of prominent political offices for decades. It demeans Hillary Clinton's considerable accomplishments. The concern about Bill Clinton being in the White House is along the same lines. He's been the President. He served in that office for 8 years. Why would you assume that Hillary Clinton, as President, would be ruled by her husband's opinion? I think she probably has her own ideas about that office, don't you?

Anyhow, she'll probably enter the primaries for the office. We'll see how she does, but I suspect that she'll do quite well in those elections and will end up as the Democratic candidate for the general election.

Your vote is your vote. Use it wisely. That's my suggestion.

First, I think she is smart, hardworking, right on many issues I care about (specifically she is right on gay rights, right on education, right on how Republicans must be dealt with). Second, I do think having our first woman President is important.
