American Sniper is a "phenomenon"

Clint Eastwood's American Sniper remained a phenomenon in its second weekend, earning a stunning $64.4 million from 3,705 theaters and quickly becoming the No. 2 war film of all time at the North American box office, not accounting for inflation.

You can look at this movie as right wing rah rah America war propaganda or
you can look at this movie as a exposing the trauma that soldiers suffer and the horror of war or
you can look at this movie as a character study, as the filmmakers say was intended.

My guess, though, is that the main reason it's becoming a blockbuster is from the first view.
It glorifies America's prowess in war and is pulling in the bucks from right wing Americans who are swarming to the theaters to revel in Muslims being killed.

If I'm correct, we will see a slew of right wing war movies churned out because Hollywood execs always copy anything that becomes a surprise success. If these copycat films are also successful we could see the growth of a new genre of politically conservative movies spewing out from the Wood of Holly.

Well, at least then the conservatives wouldn't be able to use Hollywood as one of their main boogiemen to flog.

The best thing to happen to the film is the attention it receives both good and bad. Everyone is flocking to the movie Republicans and Democratic voters. Up to 204 million. I just wonder when it will slow down. I think it may be number 1 for two more weeks and then settle to normal numbers. I think it will finish with 350 million.
