Jameis Winston's accuser goes public in documentary 'The Hunting Ground'

The woman who accused Jameis Winston of rape is going public with her side of the story.

In a new documentary film, Erica Kinsman is sharing her account that Winston – Florida State's former star quarterback – sexually assaulted her at an off-campus apartment in December 2012. Her story is part of "The Hunting Ground," a film that premiered Friday at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah and focuses on college campus rape cases.

“The Hunting Ground” is described by the Los Angeles Times as a “devastating indictment of the plague of rapes on campuses.” The film, according to the Times, examines how universities respond to rape allegations and how accusers receive blame for reporting sexual assaults. The documentary also delves into the frequency of college athletes being accused of rape.

The documentary, directed by Kirby Dick and produced by Amy Ziering, features various first-person testimonies from those who allege they have been sexually assaulted at colleges. Kinsman’s narrative is a small part of a documentary that takes on a serious topic, but her decision to speak in the film represents the first time she has opted to publicly tell her account of what she alleges happened between her and Winston.
