Let’s go for it today.

No, that’s not another inspirational message aimed at urging readers toward a productive day. It’s wishful thinking out loud that the Omaha area will establish a record high temperature for Jan. 28 before weather conditions take a nasty downturn beginning Thursday.

The National Weather Service Office in Valley, Nebraska, said the Omaha area can expect sunny skies today and a high in the lower 60s, which would eclipse 1931’s high-temperature mark of 59. The normal high for late January is 33 degrees.

Clouds and northwest winds gusting to 40 mph are to move in tonight, when a low in the lower 30s is likely.
